It's nice when one event--UD's Neuro Bingo--with one group gets folks interested in another similar group's event. It takes a village!

Good gathering at Rotolo’s Pizzeria. Thanks to all who came out and welcome to the group Emma & Vanya.

I grew up for years with summer reading at the library. Even before I could read books. Summer reading at the library was more fun than summer reading for school. Different parish libraries all do a version. … I was bred to love books and libraries and it still shows today. To me, even if someone has a disability (learning, physical, or other), books come in multiple formats and genres. Plus libraries are more than “just books”. You’ll discover something new every visit. On site or online.

This is an autism group run out of Ponchatoula. Gulf Islands Waterpark is in Gulfport, Mississippi, and about 2 hours from Baton Rouge. The company who owns this waterpark is the new owners of Blue Bayou in Baton Rouge. I’m simply passing along this info and opportunity.

Our next social support event will be Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 1-4 pm. It’s a two-parter. A flyer with a registration link will soon be available. Lunch will not be provided at this event.

First, to get our creative juices flowing, we will be making DIY tile art coasters. This can be a great Father’s Day gift for the next day. Second, from requests I’ve received, we will have yarn “day”. A yarn swap, an inclusive space for knitters and crocheters to bring ongoing projects and work on them. Plus, for newbies and beginners, a space and time for a group knitting lesson. I’m deciding whether to teach newbies how to make a scarf with thick yarn or a washcloth and/or facial scrubbie with thinner cotton yarn. The scarf involves purchasing needles ($11-$13). The washcloth/scrubbie requires chopsticks. I have lots of yarn.

Wow! This changes the therapy game by a lot! I’ve been to Knock Knock a handful of times. My own niece is a member with her dad. They love the place. Congrats to Knock Knock Children's Museum to creating something new with what already exists! Inventive.

Once again, visiting Denham Springs. For our (UD’s and Laura’s) first Neuro Bingo (held at Stir Coffee) in April 2026, Laura managed to secure a special bingo prize from a previous garage sale from here… an autistic swing (there’s probably better terms for the item). I even delivered it to the winner’s home (I didn’t have it with me for bingo). So let’s just say that St. Francis garage sales have diamonds in the rough, needles in haystacks, etc. Just saying.

It's been rescheduled--rain shut us down in May. So, now, let's shop til we drop on Friday and Saturday, June 19-20, 2026 from 7 am - 3 pm at the church's spring garage sale.
