Meet Dr. Stena Ritt - Why did she become a Chiropractor?๐ฉโโ๏ธ
โAfter years of research into natural methods of healing and using those methods with my own family and growing children, I decided I should have a career in the healing arts.
Initially, I thought I would become an osteopathic doctor in order to treat with herbal remedies as well as supplements and natural manipulations of the spine. I had nearly enrolled into the school of osteopathic medicine in Lansing when my spine started taking a turn for the worse and I needed help. I found outstanding healing with Chiropractic care for my aches and pains. My Chiropractor encouraged me to check out Chiropractic school before I committed to a career in osteopathic medicine
After visiting Palmer College of Chiropractic, I was convinced that this was the path I needed to pursue in order to learn how to heal the nervous system and remove all interferences by utilizing Chiropractic manipulations.
I was also very leery of the way that western medicine treated symptoms and uses chemicals regularly to medicate the body. I became disillusioned when my first born had a reaction to the vaccines that he was given at two months of age. This was back in 1987 when it wasnโt popular to question the medical professionals. I was forced to research the other side; commonly referred to as the alternative health approach. The Internet was not at my disposal back then so I read a litany of books from famous authors, such as Maureen Solomon, Foods that Heal; How to raise a healthy child in spite of your doctor by Dr. Robert Mendelsohn; How to Get Well by Dr. Paavo Airola and many others. My parents were fine examples who sought out alternative practitioners to help my mother overcome leukemia, congestive heart failure, type one diabetes and they raised us in a home that was full of nourishment, using plant based nutrition and recommended cleanses and supplements to heal.
My journey, naturally reflected what my parents had instilled in me, but raising babies without medical intervention, required courage, research, and trust in my creator. As a young mom, I chose to visit the health food store instead of the pharmacist and ask questions from those using natural remedies and thoughtfully weigh my optionsโeven when it didnโt follow the normal guidelines
Over the years, my research grew into a passion for natural and holistic healing and I decided to pursue a school that would allow my talents and knowledge to flow into a career. Western medicine doesnโt always get to the root of the problem, so chiropractic school seemed like the best match for my ambitions.
As a chiropractor and nutritionist, I strive to understand what the body needs by testing urine and saliva โhelping pinpoint imbalances tied to gut health, overall wellness, and even mental health. My belief is simple but powerful: when the nervous system and gut health improve, nearly everything improves. Energy, mood, clarity, and happiness all follow.
This approach blends time-tested practicesโmovement, nourishing foods, healthy fats, cleansing, and intentional daily habits with modern insight. Itโs not about quick ๏ฌxes; itโs about listening to the body and being open to change when one is ready.
I have has seen the nervous system and nutrition connection transform the overall health of my patients. It is imperative to listen to their story and allow them to feel comfortable with trying something different when other options fail. Itโs important to create a safe place for asking questions, learning options beyond the mainstream and ๏ฌnding support before things become hopeless.
I also believe my patients have taught me how to be a better doctor, and I continue strive to learn until the day I take my last breath.โ
