My heart breaks when I read stories about babies that have been abandoned and end up dying. This page doesn’t typically talk about the sad, scary side of things but after reading the story out of Illinois I felt it was important. Because, as I always tell my mommas we talk about the good and the bad so that we can be prepared for the unexpected.
No Baby Should Be Left Unsafe.
Michigan Has a Safe Alternative.
Did you know that Michigan's Safe Delivery of Newborns Law allows a parent to safely and legally surrender a newborn who is 72 hours old or younger with no fear of prosecution for abandonment?
A newborn can be safely surrendered to:
🏥 A hospital
🚑 An emergency service provider
🔥 A fire department staffed by emergency personnel
The baby will immediately receive medical care and be placed in a safe environment while adoption services are arranged.
Parenting can feel overwhelming, especially during a crisis. If you or someone you know feels unable to care for a newborn, abandonment is never the answer. There are compassionate, confidential options available.
Choosing safe surrender is an act of protection and love. It ensures a baby is safe, cared for, and given the opportunity to thrive.
If you are in immediate crisis, call 911 or visit your nearest hospital emergency department for assistance.
