The more you know😬 while honey does crystallize over time, it doesn’t expire. Not in a year or ten years. Technically not ever. It’s one of the few foods on the planet that lasts forever!

This weekend we split our hives and now have 13! All our hives were full and healthy enough to split except one that was just a little weaker so it got a new queen cell placed in hopes of strengthening the hive and can be split later. Queen cells were also placed in the new boxes the next day since the original queen stays in her original box. We will check on those in about two weeks to make sure the cells were a success! 🐝🐝

Side note: it’s very difficult to take your gloves off to get pics when thousands of mad bees are swarming all around you😝

Honey Bee Education Wednesday🤪🐝
This one video shows multiple aspects of the bees- The first thing is that the two bees in the front are doing a nectar exchange meaning the forager bee is giving the house bee nectar by mouth to mouth regurgitation to convert it into honey, adding enzymes that convert sucrose into fructose and glucose. The second thing you see is the forager bees flying into the hive like a plane landing on a runway with those balls of yellow on their legs, or “pollen pants” as I like to call them. They go out and mix pollen with nectar and pack it balls on their hair-lined legs to bring it back to the hive. It’s essential for feeding the baby bees and the colony! lastly, you may notice the deceased bee on the landing board. The undertaker bees haul the deceased bee to the entrance for another bee to haul out of the hive to prevent the spread of pathogens. I’m always so amazed watching the bees and knowing they each have their own little jobs making you appreciate that honey just a little bit more🍯

McCormick Family Honey update🐝
-we checked on the hives this weekend and they’ve been busy little bees filling their frames with honey! It’s looking like we will need to split the hives soon to give them more room. Hopefully we will have a great harvest this year if all goes as planned!
-🍯🍯🍯lots have asked and we do still have honey from last years harvest that’s been in the warmer decrystallizing if anyone is needing honey! I can do pint or quart jars but just note that it will crystallize again in the future since it’s 100% raw honey with zero additives (unlike grocery stores), but that’s okay- it still tastes great and will warm right back up to normal liquid goodness🍯🍯🍯 $10 a pint or $20 a quart, limited quantities!
-👕👕I have two t shirts avalaible, one butter yellow comfort color and one grey Gildan, both adult large for $15 each if you wanna grab one!
Thank yall again for all the support and feedback, we appreciate all of you!

🍯Honey Crystallization?
Many consumes have yet not understood the behavior of real honey. Here are some tips
Honey crystallization (also called granulation) is when liquid honey naturally turns solid or semi-solid over time. It happens because honey is a supersaturated solution of sugars (mainly glucose and fructose) in water. Since there’s more sugar than water can permanently hold, glucose tends to form tiny crystals.

Factors That Affect Crystallization.
1. Sugar Composition..... High glucose honeys (like clover, canola) → crystallize quickly.
High fructose honeys (like acacia) → stay liquid for years.

2. Water Content
Less water → faster crystallization.

3. Temperature
Fastest crystallization: 10–15 °C (50–59 °F).
Slower: >25 °C (77 °F) or near refrigeration/freezing.

4. Nucleation Sites
Pollen grains, wax particles, air bubbles → act as “seeds” for crystals to grow.

Crystallized honey has unchanged Nutritional quality if it hasn’t been overheated.

How to Liquefy Crystallized Honey
Place the jar in warm water (~40 °C / 104 °F) and stir.

To Control Crystallization
Store at room temperature (20–25 °C / 68–77 °F).
Use glass jars instead of plastic (less porous).
Filter out particles if you want honey to stay liquid.
