August can make us fee the need to fit everything in—to travel more, socialize more, achieve more, and make the rest of summer feel memorable.
Santosha, the second niyama, is the practice of contentment with what is already here.
It does not mean settling, becoming passive, or pretending everything is perfect. It means allowing joy, gratitude, and peace to exist now—not only after we accomplish the next goal or reach the next pose.
In our practice, it can look like honoring the version of the pose available today. It may mean letting go of comparison or coming back to the breath.
Off the mat, it can be appreciating the sun, time spent in community, a body that carries you, or one ordinary days.
Making the most of this season does not require doing the most.
Maybe be present enough to receive what is already here.
