Heat index values could climb above 110°, and that kind of heat can take a toll on your body faster than you might realize.

If you’re heading to the ballpark, cutting grass, working outside, fishing, or just enjoying the weekend keep the water close, take plenty of breaks, and don’t try to push through feeling overheated.

Watch out for dizziness, nausea, headache, weakness, heavy sweating, or feeling faint. And please check on your kids, older family members, neighbors, and anyone working outdoors.

🥵 Extreme Heat Is Here — Stay Safe This Week! ☀️

With heat index values expected to climb in our area, it's important to take extra precautions when spending time outdoors. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for parts of southeast Louisiana due to dangerously high temperatures and humidity.

Remember to:
💧 Drink plenty of water (don't wait until you're thirsty!)
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning

⚠️ Know the warning signs:
• Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, weakness
• Heat Stroke: Confusion, fainting, hot dry skin, or a body temperature above 103°F — Call 911 immediately.
