As we transition from a strength-focused training phase into one centered on power, mobility, and performance, the focus becomes more sport-specific, especially with golf season right around the corner. This shift isn’t just about working out differently; it’s about training smarter to enhance how your body moves, rotates, and generates force on the course.

A strong, powerful core plays a critical role in maintaining posture throughout your swing while also acting as the engine that transfers energy efficiently from your lower body to your upper body. This not only helps maximize clubhead speed but also improves control and consistency.

Equally important is developing mobility where it matters most. Increased flexibility and range of motion in the hips and thoracic spine (T-spine) allow for a smoother, more controlled backswing and a more explosive downswing. When these areas move well, you reduce unnecessary strain on other parts of the body and create a more fluid, repeatable swing.

In short, this phase is all about unlocking your body’s ability to move with purpose, building power, enhancing mobility, and setting the foundation for your best performance on the course.

Here at Great Lakes Physical Medicine we pride ourselves in performance driven training programs. One way we track performance with our clients is with the use of the Proteus machine. The proteus machine allows us to measure and track power, acceleration and muscle imbalances as well as rank athletes based on sport specific / age based cohorts. These images show an example of one of our golf athletes before and after 6 months of sport specific training.
