"Suppression is one of those sacred cows of homeopathic canon, generally considered established dogma & seldom the subject of investigation. I’d like to look at it critically, not to accept or reject it, but from a perspective of curiosity."

"We might easily recognize the role of the specialist in mastering the knowledge & skills in working with unusually encountered conditions, which they may see often in their specialty practices but which would be only rarely encountered by the generalist; but this narrow focus is also the problem with specialty practice; we less often acknowledge the need the specialist has for the generalist in collaborative treatment of the whole person. The knee bone IS connected to the amygdala; the “parts” of a complex system are not merely connected, they inter-are; they really cannot be considered to operate independently or to have independent existence."
"No drug is without “side effects;” in a complex system such as the living organism, a poke anywhere results in ripples throughout. If we’re going to work with a part, we need to appreciate the whole."

I’m choosing to share this series of posts regarding my recovery from stroke with all, rather than placing these behind a PayWall.

"Which is not a recommendation for the use of crude doses in homœopathic practice. The clinical improvement seen with these is too often muddled with pharmacologic effects; medicinal disease and palliation followed by rebound phenomena. But it is important for us to recognize that many of the curative responses seen in conventional pharmacologic medicine & herbal practice are actually accidentally homœopathic in nature"

"It is important to recognize that Hahnemann spent his life systematically exploring the ramifications of similia similibus. Homeopathy did not spring fully-formed from the proving of Peruvian bark. If we are to understand our art, and particularly if we are to presume to further its development, we need to be familiar with the path of exploration followed by its founder.

It seems reasonable to date the birth of homeopathy at the 1796 publication of Hahnemann's Essay on a New Principal for Ascertaining the Curative Powers of Drugs. If I may presume to anchor a chronology on the date of this Essay, we find ourselves today (1997) in year 202 "AE". The completion of the 6th edition of the Organon, and Hahnemann's death, occurred in 1843, "year 47". I'd like to use this framework to examine the development of homeopathy over those first 47 years, and in this essay to look specifically at the concepts of dose and dynamization as they developed over that time. In future essays I will address the related issues of repetition of dose and mode of administration, from this same perspective."

"Spring is in the air, and in celebration of the wildflowers reappearing, I’ve placed my comprehensive 120-hour Anatomy, Physiology, & Pathology course back on sale from now (4/26) 'till the end of May at over 70% off the normal price of $1200; now only $350, using the coupon code Kveten at checkout. (Kveten is the Czech name for the month of May, derived from kvetiny, “flowers.”) The course consists of over 120 hours of recorded video (recordings (in English) of live presentations over the 2017-2018 season) for self-paced participation (I recommend one 2-hour session weekly for 60 weeks, tho you may progress more quickly if you choose), supplemented by an instructor-mediated online discussion forum and downloadable handouts in .PDF format.

In 1867, Adolph Lippe fired Charles Raue (author of the wonderful Special Pathology and Diagnostics with Therapeutic Hints) from his position as professor of pathology at the Homeopathic Medical College of Pennsylvania, declaring that the"basic medical sciences" (Anatomy, Physiology, & Pathology) had no place in homeopathic medical education. Constantine Hering, the senior founder of the school, resigned in protest and went on to found the Hahnemann College of Medicine, observing that Lippe's students were forced to attend classes on Anatomy, Physiology, & Pathology presented by conventional medical colleges in order to obtain the training necessary for their professional practice. Today, there is no such need, as it is possible to attend a course on Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology designed & taught by a practicing homeopath, which investigates the iatromechanical approach of contemporary conventional western medicine from the critical perspective of Hahnemannian dynamism and a complex systems approach. This is AP&P as I wish it'd been presented during my medical training, and represents one of the proudest moments of my teaching career. In 6 modules of 10 sessions each, in over 120 hours of recorded online lecture (originally presented live during 2017-2018), this is the 4th iteration of my course, with refined presentation & material added from earlier offerings.
Don't miss out! I will not be repeating this recorded offering as a live course. Here's an opportunity to participate in a self-paced manner, while still having access to an instructor-moderated course discussion forum.
AP&P2017 - my comprehensive course on Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology for the student & practitioner of Homeopathic, other "Alternative," and Conventional Medicine is now available as a self-paced course, utilizing online streaming recordings of the live sessions produced for the 2017 enrollee cohort (along with some material from previous seasons of this course), supplemented by an instructor-moderated online discussion forum. I'm immensely proud of this course, and hope it might contribute to your studies & professional practice.
