🍂 Welcome to September, TAC Family! 🍂

We have a fun and busy month ahead at The Ability Center!

First, an important change: Today was our last official Group Cook Day. Going forward, please send your participant with a lunch AND snack every day, unless otherwise noted in the newsletter. Don’t worry—we’ll still be enjoying fun group activities, celebrating National Days with special foods from time to time, and finding plenty of ways to practice those important culinary and life skills! 💜💛

September has lots to look forward to, including the Bluegrass Festival at Bill Monroe Homeplace, the Opportunity Center Health & Wellness Fair, Universal Yums, trips to the OC Public Library, and Chaney’s Dairy Barn! 🍦📚🎶

Our TAC participants had an awesome time visiting the Owensboro Science Museum yesterday!

Outings like this give our participants opportunities to explore new things, get hands-on learning, practice social and community skills, and build independence—all the while making great memories with friends. 💜🧡💛

🌟 It’s a New Week at The Ability Center! 🌟

We’re excited for another busy week of learning, growing, and having FUN at TAC! 💜🧡💛

🍳 Tuesday, August 25 – Group Cook!
No lunch needed! Please send a drink and snack.

🔬 Wednesday, August 26 – Owensboro Museum of Science & History!
Participants must have at least $4.50 in their account to attend. Please send a lunch that does NOT require refrigeration or heating, along with a snack and drink.

📚 We’ll also be making a trip to the library this week, continuing our American Sign Language lessons 🤟, and working on some exciting and FUN pre-vocational skills!

🍕 Friday is Pizza Day! Participants who would like to order pizza need to bring money or have enough money available in their account.

📌 REMINDER: Unless it is a Group Cook day, participants need to bring a lunch, snack, and drinks every day.

We couldn’t let a week go by without showcasing our participants’ skills in the kitchen! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

🌎🥢 Our international cuisine journey continued this week with China! Our participants chose to make a delicious Chinese chicken stir-fry with rice, broccoli, carrots, and sweet & sour sauce.

From prepping and chopping ingredients to measuring, cooking, following directions, kitchen safety, teamwork, and trying new foods, group cook gives our participants the opportunity to practice so many valuable independent living and pre-vocational skills...all the while they're having a whole lot of fun doing it!

And judging by the empty plates… we’d say China was a hit! 🥡🥦🍚💜🧡💛
