PART 2: I MADE IT THROUGH SURGERY 🐾 - Friday
Hi friends… it’s Samson again. ❤️
The last thing I remember, those nice people at VEG gave me some really good sleepy medicine.
And then everything went dark.
While I was sleeping, the doctors were working really, really hard on me.
My tummy had gotten so sick that it twisted over on itself. Mom says it’s called bloat with a twisted stomach, and for a Great Dane like me, it is very, very dangerous.
I didn’t know any of that.
I just knew my belly hurt.
While I was asleep, the doctors opened up my belly, untwisted my stomach, checked everything inside of me, and fixed what was wrong.
And then…
I woke up. ❤️
I MADE IT THROUGH SURGERY!
I was pretty confused when I opened my eyes. I was sleepy. My belly hurt. I had tubes and wires and things attached to me, and there were people checking on me all the time.
And I really, really wanted my mom.
I had been a very brave boy, but I think I had used up just about all of my bravery.
The doctors told Mom that I had made it through surgery, but I wasn’t ready to go home yet. I needed to stay in the hospital where they could watch me very closely.
So that’s what I did.
One breath.
One nap.
One little improvement at a time.
The people at VEG kept taking care of me through the night. They checked on me, gave me medicine, watched all those machines attached to me, and made sure this big guy had everything he needed.
Mom says there were a whole lot of prayers being said for me while I was there, too.
Apparently, quite a few people love this giant dog. ❤️
After everything that had happened, we finally started thinking maybe the scary part was behind us.
I had made it through surgery.
I had made it through the night.
And eventually we started hearing the word I had been waiting for…
HOME. 🏠❤️
I thought I might finally get to leave the hospital and go home to my family.
Mom thought so too.
But then something changed.
My incision was bleeding.
And it wasn’t just a little bit.
I was bleeding badly, and they couldn’t get it to stop.
Suddenly, instead of getting ready to go home, everyone was worried again.
The doctors needed to keep me at the hospital even longer so they could watch me very closely and try to get the bleeding under control.
And then Mom heard something she definitely didn’t want to hear…
If the bleeding didn’t stop on its own, I might have to go back into surgery.
Another surgery.
After everything my body had already been through.
So we waited.
The doctors watched me.
Mom worried.
Everyone prayed.
And I stayed right there in the hospital while we waited to find out if my body could stop the bleeding on its own…
or if I was going to have to go back into that operating room again. 💔🐾
I guess my big story wasn’t over yet.
Love,
Samson 🐾
