This past weekend was HUGE for Sunshine coaches and members. We had folks participating at a powerlifting competition in Warwick and at an Olympic weightlifting competition in in Fishkill. Coaches Deb and Nik made it to both to support the teams! A little about the weekend:
Coach Steph Butler: This was her FIRST OLY meet, ever! It’s very special to her, especially considering how different it is from CrossFit. She got training from Nik and Deb, and with their guidance and support, ended up having a great meet. She went 5/6, PR’d both of her lifts, and will be back for more!
Jenn: This was also Jenn’s FIRST OLY meet, ever! To be honest, she signed up only because Steph wouldn’t let her go watch and cheer from the floor – but she’s super glad she signed up to do it with her instead. The goal was to make 2 of 3 lifts for each. She stayed focused, trusted Nik, and dang if she didn’t hit that goal! The 3rd attempt of each lift was a PR weight. Although she didn’t hit them, she saw how close she was and can see what she’s capable of. She’ll be back.
Coack Nik: 10 years ago, before being a business owner, before babies and other major life changes, Nik hit a pretty nice total in competition. This weekend, he did it AGAIN. 264 sn**ch, 330 clean and jerk. He coached Steph and Jenn through their lifts, and then went on the platform and really brought it. You’ve seen his training pick up in between classes, and we see his dedication during classes and while teaching barbell. His stayed his cool, calm self, and he snagged Gold!
Henry: For those of you who don’t know Henry, he’s quiet, calm, and a POWERHOUSE. No pun intended. He has been training powerlifting with Deb for a while, and often competes. We are always excited to see him kick some butt and push himself. This weekend, he did just that, and nabbed yet ANOTHER Gold. Excellent work, Henry!!
This is what we mean about community: Support each other. Push yourselves. Try something new.
We love this crew.
