The tree only grew on one side and the branches were touching the ground under the weight of the fruit.

We had wondered if the tree was healthy enough to produce this year, and it would seem that much like the human spirit, she persisted in the face of adversity 🌱🍑

This year the milkweed is so abundant and I find myself drawn to spend time and get to know this plant in new ways.

Every time I allow nature to lead me I find awe and wonder and a deep remembrance is awakened.

Though milkweed is associated with its healing properties, one of milkweed’s primary traits is its toxicity. When monarch caterpillars feed on milkweed, they take in the plant’s toxins making the vulnerable caterpillars toxic to their predators.

This feels like deeply potent medicine and a powerful symbol of how our own unique adaptations, when we are vulnerable and going through transformations, can protect us from others that may prey on us or wish us harm 🌱
