You may have heard the term “Expedited Reinstatement (EXR),” but what does it mean for you?

Expedited Reinstatement is a work incentive through the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Ticket To Work Program that can help protect you if your work situation changes.

If you have an active Ticket with the program and your Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits stop because your earnings increase, EXR allows you to request that your benefits start again without completing a new application.

This means if your health changes and you’re no longer able to continue working at the same level, you have a way to regain your benefits more quickly.

Understanding how EXR works can help you feel more confident about exploring work opportunities, knowing there are protections in place if your situation changes.

Allsup Employment Services (AES), an authorized Employment Network (EN), can help you understand how EXR fits into your overall plan and what steps to take if your work or earnings change.

AES is a Social Security-authorized EN that helps you use the Ticket To Work Program by:

Term: Trial Work Period (TWP)

Meaning: The Trial Work Period (TWP) is a work incentive under the Ticket To Work (TTW) Program that allows you to test your ability to work while still receiving full Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

The TWP lasts for 9 non-consecutive months plus a 3-month grace period. Also, it does not matter how much you earn during a given TWP month.

Example: You start a job and earn more than expected. During your TWP, you continue receiving your full SSDI benefits while seeing how work fits into your routine.

You can work and earn as much as you want for up to 9 trial work months within five years. Those months can be spread out across a 60-month period. You might work three months, take a break, work two more, and so on.

Understanding how the TWP works can help you explore employment with more clarity about what to expect.

Allsup Employment Services (AES) can help you learn how the TWP and other TTW Program incentives apply to your situation.

You might be wondering, what if your condition gets worse after you start working?

It is a valid concern, and one many people with disabilities think about before taking that next step.

The good news is that the Ticket To Work (TTW) Program includes protection designed to support you if your situation changes.

The Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE) lets you restart your SSDI benefits if you have to stop working due to your disability. This is available for 60 months after benefits end without filing a new application.

This is part of how work incentives are structured to reduce risk as you return to employment.

With Allsup Employment Services (AES), you receive guidance on how these protections work, what to expect and how to plan based on your individual situation.

Taking steps toward work does not mean giving up support. It means having the information you need to make decisions with more confidence.

AES helps you use the Social Security Administration’s TTW Program by:
- Assisting you with SSA communication.
- Assisting you with completing your Individual Work Plan.
- Providing career exploration, assistance and support.

If you are thinking about returning to work, one of the first questions you may have is whether you qualify for the Ticket To Work (TTW) Program.

The TTW Program, created by the Social Security Administration (SSA), is available to individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

If you are receiving at least one of these benefits and are between the ages of 18 and 64, you may be eligible to explore work opportunities while keeping important protections in place.

TTW is designed to help prepare for and explore employment while maintaining benefits with work incentives that help ease the transition.

Allsup Employment Services (AES) can help you review your options and understand whether the TTW Program is the right fit for your goals.

One of the most common myths about returning to work with a disability is the belief that no one will hire you because of it. The truth is many companies actively seek employees with disabilities because of the unique strengths they bring—like resilience, problem-solving skills and determination.

You are not required to disclose your disability during the hiring process, giving you control over when and how to share that information. Plus, your Employment Network (EN), like Allsup Employment Services (AES), will support you with guidance on how to have these discussions confidently.

We’re here to help you find a job that values your strengths and provides the accommodations you need for success. Our vocational experts will help you with every aspect of getting back into the workforce, both before you land a job and after.
