Success has a remarkably ordinary beginning.

You show up.

Then you show up again.

Long before anyone calls it experience, a career, or success… it was simply the discipline to keep walking through the door.

Micah has spent nearly 30 years in the tattoo industry—starting as a body piercer, then shop manager, apprentice and tattoo artist.

Along the way came seminars, awards, publications and eventually, a clientele that has allowed him to build a life doing this.

But none of those things came first.

Showing up did.

Nearly three decades later, he still does.

Austin spends his days at Integrity Tattoos working to become better at what he does.

And somewhere along the way, Downtown Belleville becomes part of the story.

Good tattoos. Good people. And occasionally something dangerously good from Sugar High. 😂

That’s one of the things we love about working downtown—you get to watch other small businesses build something right beside you.

You cannot know how far you still have to go without occasionally looking back at the distance already traveled.

Growth has always been strange that way.

It happens quietly.

An artist spends years learning a language that has no words—line, shadow, color, movement, skin.

Then someone walks through the door carrying an idea.

Two people who may have never met before sit down together.

One brings the story.

The other brings a different way of seeing it.

And somewhere between the two, something exists that belonged completely to neither of them before.

A tattoo is created.

The client leaves carrying the artist’s interpretation.

The artist remains, carrying something from the experience as well.

Then another person walks through the door.

Another idea.

Another challenge.

Another small evolution.

Eventually you look backward and realize the person creating today could not have created the same work years ago.

Maybe that is the strange nature of growth.

We rarely recognize it while it is happening.

Life doesn’t give us a map.

Maybe it gives us something closer to a compass—something carried quietly within us, pointing forward even when the road disappears into places we cannot see.

We take the next step anyway.

And somewhere along the way, if we’re willing to look inward, the journey changes us.

John’s tattoos have followed a similar path.

Inspired by the psychedelia and experimentation of The Beatles, this sleeve and chest project became something more personal—a landscape of color, music, memory and the idea that through all the noise, love remains the constant.

Some of this work has been healed for nearly five years.
The George Harrison portrait and mandala are roughly a year and a half old.

Time passed.

John changed.

The tattoos traveled with him.

And now he has returned to Integrity Tattoos, where Jason Wilson will begin another chapter—transforming an old tattoo on John’s opposite arm into something new.

Perhaps that is what growth has always been.

Not knowing exactly where the road leads.

Not pretending the darkness isn’t there.

Just refusing to let fear choose the direction.

The compass remains.
And the journey continues.

David’s been tattooing for a decade and has spent the last few years here at Integrity Tattoos becoming part of
our shop,
our clients,
and our Downtown Belleville community.

He likes his work a little darker—black and gray, strange creatures, heavy black, eyes, wings and whatever else crawls out of his head.

But behind the work is just David.

One of the people we work beside every day.
One of the artists our clients have gotten to know and trust.

David had a couple cancellations this week,
which means there’s some rare room in his schedule.

Maybe fate left the chair open for you.

Growth doesn’t come easy.
It never has.
It never will.

David has been tattooing for a decade now, and over the last few years at Integrity Tattoos, I’ve watched him grow into larger and more ambitious black-and-gray work.

Work like this takes more than talent.

It takes time.
Sacrifice.
Long nights designing when nobody is watching.

You have to work on yourself before you can take on projects like this for your clients.

This large-scale chest and throat piece was developed with his client over multiple sessions—each one another opportunity to push the work further.

Not every artist gets the time, space and stability to find out what they’re capable of.

As the owner of Integrity Tattoos, I’m proud I get to provide that opportunity and watch that growth happen.

The community sees the finished tattoo.
