☀ As Summer starts later this month, many of us are excited about sunnier days to enjoy the outdoors, but sometimes we are feeling out of shape, or we are cringing about the muscle soreness and achy joints after exertion we may experience. What you may not know is that skeletal muscles of men are usually stronger and more powerful than those of women, but men’s muscle fatigue easier than that of women for sustained or intermittent isometric contractions performed at a similar relative intensity.

👫 Other differences between males and females exist, particularly in our metabolism. Estrogen has been shown to influence the utilization of different fuels (i.e. fats, proteins, carbohydrates), especially during long endurance exercise. This finding has led researchers to believe that estrogen has glycogen-sparing characteristics.

Ultimately, the physiological mechanisms for the differences between males and females are not completely understood. Differences in muscle mass, exercise intensity, utilization of foodstuffs during metabolism (reactions to produce ATP), and neuromuscular activation have all been suggested as contributing factors for the fatigue differences between the sexes.

While women’s physiology of using nutrients is different than men, there are strategies we can utilize to make our outdoor activities more enjoyable all around.

⛓️‍💥Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

If you have not moved out for a bit, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a supplement that can make our outdoor adventures with better physical performance after being sedentary for a long period of time. CoQ10 possesses powerful antioxidant activity that supports aerobic metabolism, making it possible to have improved athletic performance. CoQ10 is a macronutrient that is essential in the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is our energy currency. That is why CoQ10 can aid in the production of ATP, more energy, and ultimately better performance. However, there is another aspect of CoQ10, and that if consumed after exercise, it helps with recovery, diminishing sore muscles. I think most of us are aware of that achiness we experience after overdoing it. It is believed that lactic acid develops during exercise, which is part of anaerobic metabolism, when ATP is depleted. So, CoQ10 can be used for performance, but also as a protective and recuperative supplement.

🫚Curcumin🫚

There are several beneficial active compounds in turmeric, but one type of valuable compound is curcuminoids. Curcuminoids are major components responsible for various biological actions. One of the well-known curcuminoids is curcumin. Curcumin is a yellowish polyphenol with potent antioxidant activity that modulates the immune system. Due to these properties, curcumin can support exercise performance, including exercise recovery.

Another benefit of curcumin is its support for joints, allowing graceful movement. As we age, often our joints are not working as well as they used to, particularly due to overuse. There is research indicating that curcumin can modulate our immune system to allow our joints to support movement and flexibility.

You can imagine that by combining these two formidable supplements, this formula will give you the comfort you might need, so you may not later regret your sunny Summer outdoor adventures.

Fasting – the Supreme Medicine 🌿

As summer approaches ☀️, we are trying to get ready for the upcoming heat and outdoor activities. Besides eating more greens 🥬 and protein, and less carbohydrates, fasting is a method many around the world utilize for detoxification, weight management ⚖️, mental clarity 🧠, boosting immunity 🛡️, and longevity and disease prevention ✨.

In Ayurvedic medicine 🌿, there is a type of therapeutic fasting called “Langhana.” Langhana leads to pacification of dosha, improves the strength of digestive power (agni) 🔥, and creates lightness in the body—promoting a healthy state, balanced hunger, thirst, desire for food, strength, and vigor ✨.

There is data 📊 that fasting has significant implications for the development of therapeutic and potential preventive strategies.

Fasting can boost immune function 🛡️, reduce inflammation, enhance autophagy 🔄, and support the body's defense against infections, highly mutated cells, and autoimmune diseases. This means it can potentially support cardiovascular health ❤️, insulin sensitivity, promote weight loss ⚖️, improve metabolic health, balance mitochondrial functions, alter the gut microbiome 🌱, and positively influence hormones, including diabetes.

Fasting has also demonstrated a positive effect on the brain and nervous system 🧠. It has been associated with neuroprotective properties, improving cognitive function, and reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases, while also supporting longevity ✨.

Presently, intermittent fasting ⏳ is very popular, with numerous potential health benefits. Intermittent can span from 12 hours to several days on a recurring basis. Hundreds of studies have shown that caloric restriction—reducing food intake to 30–40% below usual levels without malnutrition—while retaining essential nutrients, helps prevent several chronic degenerative inflammatory conditions.

Current research suggests that fasting shifts the body from using glucose to fatty acid-derived ketones 🔥, moving from fat storage to fat utilization, while helping preserve muscle mass and function.

Another type of therapeutic fasting is Upavasa 🧘‍♀️, one of the spiritual therapies that produces a lightness of the body. Several religions link fasting to spiritual practice, for purifying the mind ✨, restoring faith, and creating deeper balance.

🤍As we come to the close of this year, we pause to reflect and honor the journey with deep gratitude.

Much like the turning of the seasons, we move through cycles of growth, release, rest, and renewal—each offering its own wisdom. This year reminded us of a core Ayurvedic truth: true health arises from balance—of mind, body, and spirit—and from living in harmony with nature’s rhythms.

As we step into the new year, we set our Sankalpa🙏—clear, heartfelt intentions—with compassion. We release what no longer serves us and welcome balance, vitality, clarity, abundance, and peace. We choose alignment over perfection, and progress over pressure.

Whether you created intentions for 2025 and fulfilled each one, found some still unfolding, or never began at all, there is no pressure and no judgment here. In Ayurveda, we honor timing. Simply waking each morning with breath and awareness is meaningful. Showing up and continuing forward is an achievement in itself.

🍃Growth is not meant to be rushed, nor healing forced. The body carries its own intelligence, guiding us when to rest, nourish, reflect, or expand. Listening to that inner wisdom allows healing and growth to unfold naturally.

We are deeply grateful for our incredible community—our loyal patients, devoted followers, and everyone who continues to support us Dr. Anju and Dr. Shailinder. Your trust in a holistic, integrative approach to healing allows us to serve with intention, authenticity, and heart. You are an essential part of this journey.

🥂Cheers to another year of holistic wellness, mindful living, meaningful connections, and powerful manifestations. Thank you for walking this path with us and for your continued trust and support.

💌As a gentle reminder, may we always lead with kindness and love toward one another. We are given one world and one present moment—may we value both. Release what could have been, honor the now, and cherish those who remain by your side. When surrounded by the right energy, alignment strengthens, energy flows, and healing deepens.

🎊May you move through life blessed, loved, and in harmony with connection. May you move through life blessed, loved, and in harmony with connection. Cheers to new journeys, new goals, and memories yet to be made.—2026, bring us what is aligned and meant for us.

🌿 Ayurvedic Skin Wisdom: Brighten Dark Spots Naturally

Hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and post-acne scarring are concerns I commonly see in practice, particularly during seasonal changes.

In Ayurvedic medicine, these patterns are often associated with Pitta imbalance, where inflammation and accumulated heat settle deeper into the skin.

✨ A few Ayurvedic botanicals I frequently recommend:

💛 Saffron (Kesar)
A highly valued Ayurvedic herb known for its ability to:
• Support a brighter, more even complexion
• Reduce discoloration
• Promote collagen renewal
• Soothe inflamed or reactive skin

🌿 Turmeric & Manjistha
These herbs work synergistically to purify the blood, calm inflammation, and gradually reduce stubborn pigmentation.

🍯 Honey & Licorice
Both help strengthen the skin barrier, improve hydration, and naturally lighten dark spots over time.

Ayurveda approaches skin health by addressing both external concerns and the internal imbalances that contribute to them, allowing for steady, long-lasting improvements.

🌿 Did You Know?
In Ayurveda, your digestive fire — Agni — is the root of overall health.
During the fall and winter months, Agni becomes more vulnerable due to cold weather, heavier foods, and holiday stress.

When Agni is balanced, the body can properly absorb nutrients, support immunity, maintain healthy skin, and keep your energy steady — even through the busy holiday season.

🍁✨ Seasonal Support Tips:
• Sip warm water, herbal teas, or spiced cider to keep the digestive fire strong.
• Choose warm, cooked meals over cold salads to support winter digestion.
• Add gentle seasonal spices like ginger, cumin, cinnamon, clove, and turmeric to stabilize Agni.
• Slow down before meals — mindful eating helps digestion stay calm during holiday gatherings.

✨ Balanced Agni = a balanced body… especially in fall + winter.

🌧️ How Rainfall Naturally Cleans the Air — and What It Means for Your Health

Have you ever noticed how the air feels fresher after it rains? There’s real science behind that sensation. Rainfall acts as one of nature’s most powerful “air purifiers,” and emerging research shows how this simple weather event can influence respiratory wellness.

Rain Removes Pollutants From the Air

When raindrops fall, they grab onto dust, pollen, smoke particles, and even chemical pollutants suspended in the atmosphere. This process — called wet deposition — pulls irritants out of the air and brings them down to the ground.

A 2023 environmental study confirmed that rainfall significantly reduces PM2.5, PM10, and other airborne pollutants, improving overall air quality levels. Cleaner air means fewer irritants entering the lungs, which can be especially beneficial for people sensitive to dust and pollution.

Why This Matters for Respiratory Health

Lower levels of particulate matter are linked to better lung function, fewer asthma triggers, and calmer airway inflammation. The World Health Organization notes that when particulate exposure decreases, the lungs experience less oxidative stress and inflammatory response.

That’s why many people feel they can “breathe easier” after a steady rainfall — the air is literally less polluted.

Important Note: Heavy Rainfall Isn’t Always Helpful

While moderate rain improves air quality, excessive rainfall or flooding can have the opposite effect. Research shows that high humidity, mold growth, and spore release during heavy rain events may trigger symptoms in individuals with asthma or allergies.

So, the health impact of rain depends on the intensity and environmental conditions. Gentle to moderate rain = cleaner, easier-to-breathe air. Extreme rainfall = potential respiratory irritants.

Bottom Line💦
Rain is more than just a change in weather — it’s a natural environmental reset. By helping to wash away pollutants and airborne irritants, rainfall can create cleaner breathing conditions and support better respiratory comfort.

Who would have thought something as simple as a rain shower could play such a meaningful role in the health of our lungs?

💙 November is National Diabetes Awareness Month 💙

Did you know over 37 million Americans are living with diabetes — and 1 in 3 adults have prediabetes without knowing it?
Diabetes isn’t only about blood sugar; it affects your hormones, circulation, digestion, eyes, skin, and overall cellular health.

At our Ayurvedic and Naturopathic Clinic, Dr. Shailinder and Dr. Anju emphasize the root-cause approach — understanding how inflammation, poor digestion, and stress disrupt blood sugar balance.

🌿 Ayurvedic Insights for Blood Sugar Balance:
• Bitter Melon (Karela) – helps improve glucose metabolism naturally.
• Gymnema Sylvestre (Gurmar) – known as the “sugar destroyer,” supports pancreatic health.
• Turmeric (Curcumin) – reduces systemic inflammation linked to insulin resistance.
• Fenugreek (Methi) – rich in fiber and compounds that lower blood glucose.
• Cinnamon – enhances insulin sensitivity and digestion.

💫 Simple Lifestyle Tips:
• Walk 10–15 minutes after each meal to improve insulin function.
• Focus on warm, spiced, whole-food meals — avoid cold or processed foods.
• Practice deep breathing or meditation to lower cortisol (stress hormone).
• Stay hydrated with warm water infused with ginger or cinnamon.

🩵 Diabetes management is more than numbers — it’s about balance, awareness, and daily choices.
Let’s spread knowledge and help our community live with vitality and mindfulness.

🌿 Finding Calm in Chaotic Times

By Dr. Shailinder Sodhi,

We can all agree — life feels more stressful than ever. Between global uncertainties, fast-paced lifestyles, and daily responsibilities, it’s easy to lose balance. The body begins to hold tension, breathing becomes shallow, and our natural vitality slowly fades.

In Ayurveda, this imbalance is seen as the accumulation of toxins (ama) and stress in both the body and mind. When left unaddressed, it can disrupt digestion, sleep, energy, and even skin health. But the beautiful truth is — we all have the power to restore calm from within.

🧘‍♀️ Detoxifying, Relaxing, and Breathing Techniques

Dr. Shailinder Sodhi shares practical methods to help the body detoxify and the mind relax. These gentle Ayurvedic-inspired techniques are designed to:

• Support healthy circulation and cellular rejuvenation
• Encourage a balanced nervous system and stress response
• Promote clarity, energy, and emotional stability

Simple breathing exercises — such as alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana) and deep belly breathing (Pranayama) — can immediately shift the body from a state of tension to one of restoration.

🌬️ The Power of the Breath

Breath is the bridge between the body and mind. When we breathe consciously, we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system — the body’s “rest and digest” mode — allowing our cells to repair and rejuvenate. Just a few minutes each day of mindful breathing can lower stress hormones, enhance oxygen flow, and promote clearer thinking.

🌸 Restoring Balance from Within

In addition to breathing practices, Dr. Sodhi encourages gentle daily habits:

Warm water with lemon each morning to flush out toxins

Abhyanga (self-massage) with warm sesame or Ayurvedic oil to calm the nervous system

Mindful pauses throughout the day to reconnect with your breath and intention

Evening wind-down rituals like herbal tea or quiet reflection to promote restful sleep

Small actions, practiced consistently, create lasting change.

🌞 Takeaway

We may not be able to control the world around us — but we can nurture peace within. By incorporating simple Ayurvedic techniques for detoxification and mindful breathing, we help the body regain balance and resilience.

Who would have thought that something as natural as the breath could hold the power to calm the mind, restore vitality, and strengthen overall well-being?
