🍂 As summer begins to give way to fall, we’re feeling especially grateful for the season of abundance. 🌿

This time of year is a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do — working with local growers, watching herbs come in fresh from the field, and turning those vibrant plants into carefully crafted herbal products.

At Em’s Herbals, we love connecting people with plants that are grown close to home. There’s something pretty special about knowing where an herb came from, who grew it, and being able to work with it while it’s still fresh and full of life.

This page exists to share that connection — to teach, to celebrate the plants, and to bring a little of that goodness from our local fields to people everywhere.

As we head into a new season, thank you for being here and sharing in the journey. 💚

🌿 Locally sourced. Certified organic. Made with care.

🌿 Why do we love herbs? Because they reconnect us with the plants—and with nature.

In this video, Emily talks about the joy of discovering a plant, learning its story and traditional uses, and then recognizing it when you encounter it growing wild. There’s something pretty special about seeing a familiar herb in its natural environment and thinking, “Hey, I know you!” 🌱

From yarrow to Devil’s Club, getting to know the plants around us can open up an entirely new relationship with the natural world.

There's still time to get your Cottonwood Bud Salve!
Link to purchase in comments 👇

Handcrafted from locally harvested Cottonwood + Poplar buds gathered exclusively for Em’s, this traditional “Balm of Gilead” style salve captures the resin-rich magic of early spring—when the buds are at their peak… and only for a short window.

That window closes fast. And so does this batch.

Made with:
🌿 Cottonwood bud infusion in organic oils
🥥 Organic coconut oil
🌰 Organic unrefined shea butter
🐝 Organic beeswax
🌻 Organic sunflower oil
🌿 Organic jojoba oil

What we love most?
The scent alone feels like walking into a warm spring forest—resinous, grounding, comforting… like the season itself in a jar.

Traditionally used for:
• Sore muscles + tired joints
• Everyday stiffness
• Dry, rough, or irritated skin
• Scrapes, bug bites, redness
• Cracked hands, heels, lips

This is one of those “you’ll understand it the second you smell it” kind of products.

⚠️ Extremely limited seasonal batch—once it’s gone, it’s gone until next spring.

🌿 GET TO KNOW A PRODUCT: Helichrysum Essential Oil

Five fun facts about our Certified Organic Helichrysum italicum Essential Oil, steam distilled in Croatia:

1️⃣ It has a beautiful, distinctive aroma. Think sweet, warm, and woody—with enough depth that it's considered a middle-to-base note in essential oil blending.

2️⃣ It’s sometimes called the “immortelle.” Helichrysum is especially beloved in the world of natural skincare and aromatherapy.

3️⃣ It has a long history of traditional herbal use. Helichrysum has traditionally been valued for its soothing and balancing qualities.

4️⃣ It’s a skincare favorite. Helichrysum is traditionally used in topical preparations and is a popular ingredient in natural skincare formulas—including our own Facial Beauty Oil.

5️⃣ A little goes a long way! Like all essential oils, Helichrysum should be diluted in a carrier oil before applying to the skin. Our recommended maximum dilution for adults is 5%.

🌿 Certified Organic. Steam distilled. Carefully sourced.

Essential oils should always be used appropriately and diluted before topical application. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Tuesday reminder: you don't have to know everything about herbs to start using them. 🌿

One of the things we love most about herbalism is the simple idea of getting to know your plants.

Start with one herb (picture below is some fresh Organic Calendula being prepped by our team).

Learn what the herb you're interested is, where it comes from, how people have traditionally used it, and how it fits into your own life. Then maybe try another.

Herbalism isn't about having a cupboard full of 100 different herbs. It's about building a relationship with the plants around you—and learning along the way.

So here's our Tuesday question: What's one herb you'd like to know more about? 🌱

Tell us in the comments. We may just make a future post about it!

Why we love our Pure Infused Arnica Oil 🌼

There’s a reason Arnica has been treasured in traditional herbal care for generations. Our Pure Infused Arnica Oil is made with certified organic Arnica montana flowers, slowly infused into certified organic jojoba and unrefined sunflower oils for a simple, clean topical preparation.

Traditionally, Arnica oil has been used to support the body after everyday bumps, bruises, strains, sprains, swelling, and overworked muscles and joints. It’s also a favorite among massage therapists.

We don't add gels, petroleum, preservatives, or fillers—and this is not a homeopathic product. Just beautiful Arnica flowers and high-quality organic oils, carefully infused in small batches.

🌿 Certified Organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture
🌼 Approximately 5% Arnica in the finished infused oil
💚 No fillers or petroleum
🌱 Made for external use

A simple, traditional herbal preparation made with a whole lot of care.

I’m really excited to share this one! 🌿💚

Our Muscle & Joint Care Salve takes our incredibly popular Arnica Salve—the #1 seller in our salves—and gives it a little extra oomph.

We’ve combined organic Arnica flowers with menthol crystals, Wintergreen, and Sweet Birch essential oils for a cooling, penetrating herbal salve that I like to describe as an “herbal icy hot.”

Arnica has long been treasured in traditional herbalism for topical muscle and joint care, while the cooling sensation of menthol makes this salve especially refreshing after activity.

I love it for:
🌿 Shoulder and muscle discomfort
🌿 Tennis elbow
🌿 Knees and joints
🌿 Tired, overworked muscles
🌿 Post-workout recovery

It’s easy to apply wherever you need a little extra herbal support—and that cooling sensation feels wonderful!

If you’re looking for a little extra oomph from your herbal muscle and joint care, this is definitely one to check out. 💚

🌿 DAY FOUR: OSHÁ ROOT

Have you used Oshá as part of your herbal practice?
Tell us about it in the comments! 👇🌿

Today is the final installment of “4 Herbs We Love”, and we're ending with a truly special one: Oshá (Ligusticum porteri) Root.

Sometimes called Bear Medicine, Mountain Ginseng, Colorado Cough Root, Porter's Lovage, and many other names, Oshá is a remarkable perennial herb found in the high-altitude forests of the Rocky Mountains, the southwestern United States, and northern Mexico.

Oshá has a long history of traditional use among Native American communities, particularly among tribes of the Rocky Mountain region. Traditionally, the aromatic root has been valued for respiratory and immune support, including use during seasonal colds, coughs, and fevers. It has also been used traditionally for digestive concerns, pain, allergies, and as a cleansing or purifying herb. 🌿

One of the things that makes Oshá especially fascinating is its wonderfully aromatic character. Some traditional practices included burning the root as a purifying incense, while the root itself has been prepared in teas, tinctures, and other herbal preparations.

Our Oshá is wild harvested in the mountains of New Mexico specifically for Em’s Herbals. Because this is a special and relatively hard-to-find plant, we only offer a limited amount each year. It is harvested in the spring and carefully dried for our customers.

We believe that with plants like Oshá, how we source matters. Respect for the land, the plant, and the traditional knowledge surrounding it is part of what makes herbalism so meaningful.
