WHAT DINO WOULD YOU GET? BRING ME YOUR DINOSAUR REQUESTS. This triceratops has been in the works for over a year!! I’m so grateful to be working on it now. We’ve got some purple to add to the horns and such, and then we will be done! Huge thanks for my client for sitting through a really spicy area while I got all these lines in.

Wanna see some of my tattoos? 👀
I’ve been asked many times if I can tattoo tiny serif words / letters, or a pixely 8-bit buddy. And yeah, I can, but... with some caveats.
Scale and contrast are everything when it comes to making detailed tattoos last, and here, I’ve used my own tattoos to show you exactly why. Small details blur and blend over time, light colors without contrast fade into the skin, and 8-bit art needs those pixels to be crisp or it just turns into a blob after a few years. Bigger isn’t just a preference, it’s how we make sure that your tattoo stays legible for decades.
In this vid, you’ll see my 15 year old rib tattoo that’s basically dead to me, some script I had done 20 years ago by an apprentice that’s still readable, and my own back shoulder piece that had people thinking I had some kind of injury because the warm tones blended right into my skin.
If you’re dreaming about a tiny font or an 8-bit character, check this out or save it and then let’s talk about how to make it actually work long term.
And if you know someone who’s been wanting a character from an old SNES or Gameboy Game, or any of the new pixely games (think Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Undertale, Deltarune, Hyperlight Drifter, Shovel Knight... the list goes on and on), send this to them!

This tattoo is a great example of how premade or flash designs can be tweaked!

It was originally a body with rainbow colors and black cosmic hair. We played around with different ideas to see what kinds of colors the client would prefer, coloring the body in shades of purple and blue and burgundy.

Eventually I was like, what if we instead color the hair with those hues? I tried it out in Procreate and she loved it. And here we are!

There might be some final tweaks in the future, but for now, she’s done! Thankful for clients who are patient with me as I try new things to dial a design in and make it perfect for them 💜

I’ve only done a couple of cover-ups, and one of them was on myself (and patched together on impulsive whims).

That said, I get asked about cover ups a lot, especially from folks who’d rather go that route than get something lasered off (ouch!). I also see a lot about them online since I follow so many tattoo accounts. It’s an area I’m curious to explore more, and happy to try for willing clients who know it’s not my usual arena.

In the meantime, there are a lot of questions and misconceptions folks have about cover ups, so I’ve done my best to put the answers I have together into these slides. If anything’s unclear, or you have any questions / corrections, LMK in the comments (and thanks in advance)!
