An evaluation is one moment, in one new place, with someone your child may have just met. So I’m looking beyond the number of words I hear that day.

I’m noticing how your child connects, what draws them into play, how they communicate when they’re comfortable, and what helps them feel at ease.

And when a parent says, “They do that at home,” I take that seriously. Your observations help me understand the fuller picture of your child.

A child who’s quieter with someone new may not be showing us everything they can do. It’s one more piece of information to understand together.

What do I make as a pediatric speech-language pathologist? ✨

After 26 years, I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful moments aren’t necessarily the biggest milestones.

They’re the moments when a child feels heard, discovers something new, connects with someone else, or realizes what they’re capable of.

Whether it’s in a therapy session, at Little Beats, or alongside the horses at Trailblazers, those are the moments that make me love what I do.

And I wouldn’t trade them for anything. 🤍

A little excitement for Trailblazers today! 🐴🤍

We’re so grateful to Richland Source for coming out to see what we’ve been building with our friends at Steadfast Path Horsemanship & EAL.

It’s been such a joy watching children grow in confidence, try new things, and connect through these experiences.

Helping your child learn new words doesn’t have to mean flashcards, constant questions or asking them to repeat everything you say.

Actually, some of the best opportunities for language happen in really ordinary moments.

Playing with cars. Getting dressed. Eating a snack. Reading the same book for the 147th time. 😂

Follow what has your child’s attention. Give them simple words that fit what’s happening. Repeat yourself. And remember that communication can look like more than a perfectly spoken word.

You don’t need to spend your whole day “working on language.”

You’re already giving your child opportunities to learn it just by talking, playing and connecting with them. 🤍

Looking for something fun to do together in the morning? Our next Little Beats session starts October 20! 🎶

We’ll sing, move, explore instruments, and enjoy time together with room for children to watch, warm up, and join in at their own pace.

Our 5:30 class is full, but we have openings in our morning classes. We’d love to welcome familiar faces and new families!

There are lots of reasons families find their way to Little Beats. 🤍

Sometimes they’re just looking for something fun to do together.

Sometimes they’re hoping for a little more social interaction or a place for their child to be around other kids.

Sometimes they have a little one who absolutely loves music and movement.

And sometimes they’re looking for something that feels fun but has some developmental value tucked inside, too.

That’s really what we want Little Beats to be.

Music, movement, instruments, play and plenty of opportunities to interact, participate and communicate. No pressure to do it one particular way.

Our next 6-week session begins October 20 at Northern Star in Bellville.

A new look for Northern Star ✨

New logo, new colors, new branding, but still the same Northern Star Therapy Services.

I’ve been so excited to share this little refresh! I wanted our branding to feel warm, welcoming, playful, and a little more like the space and community we’ve grown into.

A huge thank you to Madison Adams for bringing it all together and creating a look that feels so perfectly us. I absolutely love how it turned out!
