I READ A COMMENT SECTION AND GOT RILED UPš³š¤ yikes!
I usually do not read comment sections because they tend to leave me genuinely activated and upset. But this one hit a little too close to home and I couldnāt look away.
I keep seeing the same argument over and over again on the internet:
āWhy do LGBTQIA+ people even need a Pride flag? Isnāt that divisive? The only flag is the AMERICAN FLAG!ā
So I wanted to take a moment to unpack those ideas, which really sting to read- and to explain some of the history behind why the Pride flag is important.
At the end of the day, LGBTQIA+ people deserve to live with peace, dignity, safety, respect, joy, and equal access to the same rights, protections, and opportunities afforded to everyone else. Period.
Pride was never about separating LGBTQIA+ people from the rest of society. It was born from a genuine need for visibility, community, belonging, and equal treatment in a world that has not always offered those things.
If youāre an ally, please donāt underestimate the power of your voice. Have conversations. Share facts. Challenge misinformation. Make your support visible. LGBTQIA+ people shouldnāt have to fight these battles alone.

LGBTQIA+ people deserve hate-free comment sections, harassment-free Pride events, and nervous systems that donāt have to brace for hostility every time we open social mediaš
