A passion of mine is working with women in the postpartum period. This is a tender time and it’s always an honor to sit with moms who have just brought new life into the world 💕
I typically recommend getting updated bloodwork somewhere between 4-8 weeks postpartum, whenever mom has the bandwidth to do so!
It is especially important to look at iron status and thyroid function at this time
There is a very high demand for iron during pregnancy and we want to ensure that iron status is normal and iron stores are looking good
Pregnancy and/or the shift in hormones that happens postpartum can alter thyroid function. The thyroid is “the master of metabolism” and works with your brain to keep the body balanced. It’s also involved in breastmilk production!
We need to ensure mama’s body, mind and heart are nourished and well taken care of in the postpartum time period so she and baby can thrive 💗
