HB 1236 is a simple bill that provides guidance to the Louisiana Department of Insurance and strengthens its ability to protect patients from unfair pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) practices.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Tim Temple and his staff, the Department now has the authority and resources needed to help patients, promote transparency, and hold high-cost middlemen accountable.

Louisiana continues to lead the nation in pharmacy transparency and patient choice.

Now, our state already has some of the strongest pharmacy laws in the country:
• No spread pricing
• No pharmacy steering
• Patients choose the pharmacy they trust
• Pharmacies are reimbursed in a way that helps cover the cost of providing care

With the passage of HB 1236, the Louisiana Legislature has once again taken a stand for transparency, accountability, and ensuring savings are passed on to patients—not middlemen.

A special thank you to Representative Jason DeWitt, Senator Adam Bass, and Senator Kirk Talbot for their leadership and commitment to protecting Louisiana patients, independent pharmacies, and local healthcare access. Their efforts were instrumental in advancing this important legislation through the Legislature.

We also appreciate Governor Landry’s continued commitment to transparency and patient-centered healthcare reform. We look forward to him signing HB 1236 into law and building on the progress Louisiana has already made.

When patients are free to choose their pharmacy, everyone benefits—especially the communities we serve.
