POV: Putting On A Coat Is A Workout

“If putting on a coat feels exhausting with frozen shoulder, try putting the painful arm into the sleeve FIRST.

That usually decreases the amount of twisting and strain on the shoulder.

Sometimes recovery isn’t just exercises.

Sometimes it’s learning how to make life easier while the shoulder calms down.

POV: Washing Your Hair Feels Impossible

If washing your hair hurts with frozen shoulder, try leaning forward slightly instead of forcing your arm straight overhead.

You can also use your opposite arm to help support movement.

The goal right now isn’t forcing perfect motion.

It’s finding ways to keep moving without constantly irritating the shoulder.

POV: You Can’t Sleep With Frozen Shoulder

If frozen shoulder keeps waking you up at night, one thing that often helps is supporting the arm with a pillow instead of letting it hang forward.

And if you’re sleeping directly on that shoulder?
That usually makes it even angrier.

Sometimes improving your positioning at night can calm symptoms down more than people realize.

POV: Reaching Into Cabinets Hurts

If reaching into cabinets hurts with frozen shoulder, stop trying to muscle through it.

Instead, step closer to the cabinet, turn your body a little more, and let your whole body help instead of forcing all the movement from the shoulder.

You can also use a small step stool so you don’t have to reach as high.

Small changes like this can make everyday life feel a LOT easier while your shoulder heals.

POV: Deep Breathing to Unlock Frozen Shoulder Pain

Starting in February, I had about 5 weeks of miserable shoulder pain.

It hurt all day and most of the night.

I tried treating it myself.
I saw multiple friends for treatment.

I used a TENS unit, medications, a steroid injection, muscle relaxers!

When you’re hurting badly enough, there’s not much you won’t try.

And this was the first time in my life I’d dealt with severe pain for weeks straight.

But surprisingly?

The thing that helped me sleep the most was deep breathing.

I would breathe in through my nose for 4 seconds… hold it for 3 and then slowly breathe out through my mouth.

The breathing helped calm my nervous system and relax my body.

It seriously helped me fall asleep multiple nights when nothing else worked.

Breathing Could Unlock Your Shoulder Pain

Starting in February, I had about 5 weeks of shoulder pain. 5 weeks if miserable shoulder pain.

I treated myself, mostly, but finally went to see multiple friends for treatment.

When you’re hurting there’s not much you won’t try.
It’s

This was the first time in my life to have severe pain for weeks.

It nagged me all day long and most of the night.

I slept on my couch with a tens unit and propped up in whatever position gave me the most relief.

I had NSAIDs, steroid injection and muscle relaxers. None of them gave me much relief.

It was extremely hard to get to sleep.

Finally, I tried deep breathing! This is what helped me get to sleep the most!

I would take a deep 4 second breath in through my nose. Hold it 3 sec and exhale out of my mouth.

The combination of breathing and focusing on the breathing helped me relax.

It did not fail ONCE to get me to sleep.

If you are dealing with severe pain and nothing else is helping, please try this.

Deep breathing affects the vagus nerve which helps your body relax!

Sit still and as comfortable as you can!
Breathe in through your nose to the count of 4.
Hold it for 3 seconds.
Breathe out of your mouth to the count of 4.

Repeat.

Try it and let me know if it helps!

It was seriously the only way I could get to sleep several nights.

Did your PT explain your frozen shoulder?

When you first see your PT, they should answer all of your questions.

You should leave with a sense they know what’s going on and you do too!

We don’t always figure everything out in the first visit, but you should have a good idea of your issues, what’s going to be done and why!
