Two Days ago marked Indigenous Peoples Day. 💜 Through the years, Indigenous people have fought to protect their own homes, lands, cultures, and rich traditions from the colonists who have used severe violence to seize all that they have taken pride in.

Happy Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month 💟

September 15 officially marks the independence of five Latin American countries (Sarika, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua). During this time we celebrate the presence of Latin Americans in North America and recognize all their contributions, more specifically their efforts within the medical/health field.

Meet Alex Chrystal if the Aloha Delta Class. He is a third year MCB neuro major with aspirations in Neurology.

🤝Alec loves his rush class (alpha Deltas) and has a super strong interpersonal social network that has yielded a plethora of professional opportunity.

🚑Professionally, Alex has successfully completed his EMT certification and is planning on working events and/or IFT calls in San Jose this semester.

🎹On his free time Alec makes/produces music, primarily electronic and house :). He likes to dj for fun on the weekends and likes to workout throughout his week. Though ultimately, he likes to enjoy a lot of his time hanging out with his friends.

Meet Sophia De La Rocha of the Alpha Epsilon Class. 🧚🏽‍♂️ She is a a second year from the Los Angelos area that intends to major in Public Health. 🦠

Sophie is currently a member of Alpha Phi as well as Phi Delta Epsilon, where she serves as a Publicity Chair on the Secretary Committee. This semester, Sophie will be participating in a Public Health Service Internship at a non-profit organization. 🏩

Her plans after college include pursuing a Master’s in Public Health and applying to Medical or PA school. Areas of medicine that she is passionate about are neurobiology, psychopathology, and dermatology. 🧠

Sophie’s favorite part about PhiDE is being around hilarious people that make her laugh while inspiring her to work hard. 💟

During her free time, Sophie loves going thrift shopping and selling vintage clothes online. She also enjoys going on walks, cooking, and trying new foods! Her Spotify playlists consists of 90’s r&b and artists like Mac Miller, Faye Webster, SZA, and Omar Apollo. 🧘🏽‍♀️🍄

✨Active Memver Spotlight ✨

🧫Meet Sarah O’Shea of the Omega Class, a third year double majoring in Public Health and Molecular Environmental Biology with an concentration in Environment and Human Health.

💫Sarah is the Vice President of Finance of PhiDE and her favorite part of PhiDE is the sense of community and support that her fellow actives provide. She has made some of her closest friends at Berkeley from PhiDE!

💉Sarah is an intern (soon to be student leader) with the Sexual Health Education Program at Berkeley, as she is especially passionate about women's and reproductive health. She is also involved in Project SMILE, CHAOS, and an officer of Cal Running Club. At home in New Jersey, Sarah is a nursing assistant at a small pediatric practice. Sarah hopes to pursue her MPH in maternal and child health before applying to medical school to become an OB/GYN.

🥐In her free time, Sarah enjoys distance running, exploring all the trails Berkeley has to offer, going to concerts, and baking. Her favorite thing to bake is slutty brownies (brownie, oreos, and chocolate chip cookie all in one!) Some of Sarah's other hobbies include bullet journaling and calligraphy.

Sarah is a big fan of indie and alternative music. Some of her favorite artists include The Strokes, STRFKR, and Grimes. Her current favorite song is MENTHOL* by Jean Dawson & Mac DeMarco.

✨Active Member Spotlight✨

🧫Meet Daniel Gonzalez of the Alpha Delta Class, a second year planning on majoring in Psychology with a minor in Global Public Health.

💫Daniel has been able to not only grow as a student but overall person within PhiDE as he has been able to connect and find a second family within his incredibly friendly Alpha Delta class.

💉He is currently a member within many Latinx associated organizations at UC Berkeley. Some of these organizations including ChicanX LatinX Student Development (CLSD) and LatinX Business Student Association (LBSA). Through PhiDE he holds two chair positions within l Diversity and Inclusion l and Publicity.

🌯Daniel enjoys going on morning, afternoon, and night time coffee runs more than anything. He also enjoys running, singing in the shower, and being a foodie with friends.

🎶He is one of Jhene Aiko’s biggest fans along with Ariana Grande, Paloma Mami, and BLACKPINK. His favorite song is Eternal Sunshine by Jhene Aiko.

🧫Meet Sydney Booth of the Alpha Alpha class, a third year majoring in Integrative Biology and minoring in English.

💉Sydney is Secretary/Risk Management Officer of PhiDE and a research assistant in the Looy Lab. She is also involved with the Public Service Center.

💫Her favorite part of PhiDE is the encouragement that comes from being around such intelligent, compassionate, and ambitious people.

📚Some of Sydney’s hobbies include reading, hiking, basketball & tennis, and trying new restaurants.
