More than 30 Aledaders joined the broader accountable care community at the Fall 2026 National Association of ACOs (NAACOS) conference in Washington, D.C., to collaborate on efforts to advance value-based care nationwide. At the event, SVP of Policy and Economics Travis Broome joined a panel on optimizing network design for accessibility and value, while VP of Population Health Impact Tamara Thomas chaired a session on leveraging the Rural Health Transformation Program to advance accountable care.

Our ongoing work with NAACOS remains vital to empowering primary care organizations with the solutions they need to thrive in value-based care.

ACO vs MCO: The acronyms sound similar, but the two models operate differently.

An accountable care organization (ACO) is led by clinicians who coordinate a patient's care, work to improve outcomes and take responsibility for the total cost of care. A managed care organization (MCO) is led by a health plan that works to manage costs through its provider network and coverage rules. For primary care organizations evaluating value-based contracts, understanding where the responsibility for care decisions rests is the best place to start.

We are proud of Aledade's participation in the NCQA - National Committee for Quality Assurance Health Innovation Summit, where our leaders and partners presented best practices for improving blood pressure control. VP of Population Health Impact Tamara Thomas moderated a session with panelists MaryCatherine Arbour, MD, MPH, VP of clinical quality, Martine Molett, RN, CCM, MHA, executive director of population health and value-based care at The Christ Hospital Health Network and Keila Brown, DNP, chief medical officer of Central Mississippi Health Services.

Together they shared how care teams are improving blood pressure control, even in communities facing real barriers like limited transportation, food access and broadband. Their shared message: care teams can save lives when they adapt proven approaches to their practice and the people they serve.

In this episode of The ACO Show, David Ford, VP of Health Information Technology at the California Medical Association (CMA) and CEO of CMA Physician Services, joins hosts Joshua Israel, MD, and Sean Cavanaugh to talk about value-based care in California.

Ford says the real differentiator for practices succeeding in value-based care isn't size or resources — it's culture. "It's really about in the practice, is everyone willing to change and are they all rowing in the same direction?"

He also sees artificial intelligence as a way to help organizations like his scale the hands-on coaching practices needed to make that shift — as long as physicians help shape how it's built.
