Fried foods are undeniably delicious—especially when dining out. One of my favorites has always been French fries, whether they’re classic potato fries or sweet potato fries. There is just something about a crispy, salty potato!

But there is a hidden piece of the puzzle in many restaurant fries: the oils they are cooked in. Many restaurants use highly processed seed oils, such as corn, soybean, or canola oil. These oils are often extracted and refined through industrial processes, which can increase oxidation and create compounds we may not want to consume regularly—especially when repeatedly heated for frying.

Does that mean I never eat French fries? Absolutely not! Food is also about enjoyment, balance, and living life. I still splurge from time to time because I genuinely love them. 😊

Recently, I found a better option: organic frozen French fries made by Folkland and prepared with olive oil. They are surprisingly delicious! I found them in the frozen section at Giant Food.

A simple swap that lets me enjoy one of my favorite foods while being a little more mindful about the ingredients.

Detoxing your liver doesn't come from a supplement—it starts with your daily food choices.

A simple way to support liver function is to eat a "rainbow diet": aim for at least three different colors on your plate at each meal, along with a quality protein source and healthy fats. These foods provide the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants: cofactors your liver needs to perform its natural detoxification processes.

The next time you see a marketing claim promising to "detox your liver," remember: detoxification is already one of the liver's primary jobs. Your goal is not to force detoxification, but to support the liver so it can function optimally.

Additional ways to support liver health include:• Ensuring adequate B vitamins, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids• Choosing clean, minimally processed foods• Reducing exposure to pesticides and environmental toxins when possible• Avoiding unnecessary medications and polypharmacy when appropriate• Limiting alcohol consumption

Your liver is designed to detoxify naturally. The best support comes from consistent healthy habits, not a magic supplement.

A quick liver-support tip: think “rainbow meals” — aim for at least 3 vibrant colors on your plate at each meal. The powerful nutrients are found in flavonoid-rich, deeply pigmented foods along with quality protein and B vitamins, which help support the liver’s natural detoxification pathways.

Focus on:

* Dark leafy greens
* Berries
* Beets
* Purple cabbage
* Carrots
* Citrus
* Clean proteins
* Gluten-free whole foods

There’s no magic supplement — consistent, fresh, nutrient-dense meals are the foundation of healthy liver support.

As a functional medicine provider, I focus on identifying and addressing the root cause of illness rather than simply managing symptoms. Chronic inflammation is often a major contributor to many long-standing health concerns, including neuroinflammation, which may present as challenges associated with ASD, PANS/PANDAS, ADHD, and other developmental or behavioral concerns.

For developing children and adolescents, early identification and support can be important in helping them reach their fullest potential. My approach is individualized and centered on understanding each child’s unique health history, symptoms, and goals.
