500+ Key Club and CKI members gathered last weekend in Springfield, IL for DCLC, and were joined by the I-I District Board for the Kiwanis MidYear Board meeting. That Saturday (2/21/26) was the I-I District KNRF Luncheon, and our guest speaker was Dr. Robin Bowman, Director of the Spina Bifida Center and Fetal Neurosurgery at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Bowman is focused on creating a means to TRAIN the next generation of fetal neurosurgeons on how to perform fetoscopic surgery on an unborn child with spina bifida. To celebrate our 75th birthday in August 2027, I-I District KNRF has pledged to provide her with a gift of a surgical training model of a pregnant mother's torso with a fetus in her womb that has spina bifida, allowing new doctors to learn and practice before performing the surgery on expectant moms. I-I District Key Club raised almost $15,000 this Key Club year, and Circle raised over $1,200 just at this function. With the donations, were at $75,000 of the $100,000 needed for the surgical model. My deepest thanks to Anthony Tripp for the photos!

I-I District KNRF Medical Director Emeritus, Dr. Rodger Elble, frequently commented on the exceptional caliber of our grant recipients, stating that the list reads like the "Who's Who" of neurological researchers...Dr. NICO DOSENBACH certainly fills that description. Yesterday I attended the installation of Dr. Dosenbach as the inaugural David M. and Tracy S. Holtzman Professor of Neurology at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. During the installation, it was highlighted that in addition to articles in the NY Times and npr, he EVEN made it on "Late Night with Stephen Colbert!" Congratulations, Dr. Dosenbach!

Just finished as a guest speaker at the International Federation for Spina Bifida Association WEBINAR when I presented the work that I-I District KNRF is doing to celebrate our 75th Diamond Jubilee birthday celebration, focused on Dr. Robin Bowman's passion to train the next generation of pediatric neurosurgeons on fetoscopic surgery! The WEBINAR was held TODAY in recognition of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 12/3/25!
