🥨 It's after lunch.... You're running on coffee and the three bites of toast you didn't finish at breakfast… and suddenly you're standing at the counter eating a fistful of your kid's goldfish.
(Just me? 🙋‍♀️ Didn't think so.)

Here's what I've learned after years of doing this — and I'm a dietitian: it's not a willpower problem. It's a snack problem. When the only grab-and-go options in the house are crackers and fruit snacks, that's what we reach for.

So I rounded up 20 of my go-to high-protein snacks for busy moms — make-ahead AND grab-and-go — including two I make on repeat (hello, cottage cheese egg bites 🙌). These are the same snacks I share with my nutrition clients: minimal prep, kid-friendly, and built to actually hold you over so you're not inhaling dinner the second you start cooking it.

The whole secret? Pair a protein with a fiber. That's it.

Summer BBQ season can feel weirdly stressful when you have a picky eater.

Everyone notices what your child is eating.
Everyone has opinions.
And somehow a plain hot dog becomes a family discussion topic.

So here’s your reminder this Memorial Day weekend and grilling season:

Your child does not need a “perfect BBQ plate” to belong at the table.

Maybe your plate has:
✨ BBQ chicken
✨ potato salad
✨ coleslaw
✨ corn on the cob

And maybe your child’s plate has:
✨ a roll
✨ watermelon
✨ plain chicken
✨ corn

Same dinner.
Different plate.

No pressure.
No food battles.
No apologies.

You do not owe anyone a performance plate.

This summer, I’m choosing:
❤️ less pressure
❤️ more connection
❤️ realistic family meals
❤️ feeding my child confidently

Because good memories matter more than food commentary.

Same dinner. Different plate. 🍝✨

This is how I feed my family without making multiple meals every night.

Mom’s plate:
✔ More protein
✔ Extra veggies
✔ Lower carb

Kid’s plate:
✔ Familiar foods
✔ Simple sides
✔ No pressure

Tonight’s dinner = slow cooker Italian meatballs ❤️

One recipe.
Three meal ideas.
Way less stress at 5pm.

Dinner got easier for me when I stopped trying to make ONE perfect plate for everyone. 👏
Same dinner.
Different plate.

Tonight’s version:
🍝 Slow cooker Italian meatballs

My plate:
✔ More protein
✔ Extra veggies
✔ Lower carb

Kid plate:
✔ Familiar foods
✔ Pasta
✔ Meatballs separated
✔ Simple sides

Nobody needed a separate dinner.

Nobody fought over food.

And I didn’t feel stuck making 3 different meals at 5pm.
This is honestly the biggest mindset shift that’s helped our family dinners feel less stressful.

You don’t have to make two dinners to feed your kids well. I stopped making two dinners… and started plating dinner differently instead 👇

Same dinner.
Different plate.

My plate: spaghetti with chicken sausage + zucchini 🥗
Their plate: buttered noodles, sausage, cucumbers + fruit 🍓

Not identical.
Still balanced.
Still one meal.

I broke down this simple dinner method on the blog ❤️

Weekends = pizza. Every time. 🍕

Between practice, games, late nights, and getting home starving…

pizza just happens.

So instead of fighting it—
I just add something simple on the side:

✔️ bagged salad
✔️ fruit
✔️ veggies + dip

No extra cooking.
No starting over Monday.

Pizza every Friday. Possibly Saturday too. No guilt. No rules. Just balance 💛

I don’t know who needs this tonight… but dinner does NOT have to be complicated ❤️

This slow cooker salsa chicken is one of those meals I lean on when:
✔️ the day got away from me
✔️ everyone wants something different
✔️ I have zero energy to think about dinner

Because it turns into multiple meals with almost no extra effort:

→ taco bowls
→ quesadillas
→ simple “picky eater” plates

Same chicken. Different plates. Everyone’s happy.

And when you add things like beans, corn, cheese, or avocado, it actually becomes a meal that keeps everyone full (which means fewer “I’m still hungry” requests 20 minutes later 😅)

This is real-life dinner over here—nothing fancy, just food that works.

👉 Would your family go for the bowl, the quesadilla, or the separated plate?

It’s 5:00pm.
You’re tired.
Someone has practice.
Someone is already asking what’s for dinner.

And you… have nothing planned.

This is exactly why I love this recipe 👇

I make slow cooker salsa chicken once… and turn it into 3 different dinners my kids will actually eat.

✔ Taco bowls
✔ Quesadillas
✔ Nachos

Same ingredients. Different meals.
No short order cooking.

And if you have a picky eater?
👉 You don’t need a separate meal
👉 You just need a different plate

(think: everything separated instead of mixed)

I just shared exactly how I do this here: https://momtomomnutrition.com/food-and-recipes/slow-cooker-salsa-chicken-3-meals/

This is one of those “keep in your back pocket” dinners for busy nights 💛

I didn’t expect this job to feel different… but it really does.

I’ve been working remotely my entire career, and this is honestly the least isolated I’ve ever felt.

In just 2 months at Nourish, I’ve gone from part-time → full-time…
and built real relationships with my clients—mostly busy moms who are just trying to take better care of themselves without more overwhelm.

They don’t need perfection.
They need support, structure, and someone in their corner ❤️

And I get to do that on a schedule that works for my life…
including my other full-time role as 🚢 cruise director for my family of four 😅

If you’re a dietitian and you’ve been craving:
✨ flexibility
✨ real connection with clients
✨ support behind the scenes

…it might be worth taking a look.
