Your LDL isn’t the only number I care about when I look at your cholesterol panel. It’s helpful, but it doesn’t tell us the full story.
ApoB is another number that reflects how many artery-damaging particles are circulating in your bloodstream, while Lp(a) is a genetically inherited cardiovascular risk factor that most people are never tested for.
CAC score can be helpful, but a score of 0 doesn’t always mean risk is 0. It doesn’t detect soft plaque and may miss risk in younger patients or those with elevated Lp(a).
The goal isn’t to scare people into taking statins. The goal is to understand risk more accurately. Prevention is key.
