Meet Demodex — a microscopic mite that naturally lives inside human hair follicles and sebaceous glands. In small numbers, it’s usually harmless. But when Demodex populations overgrow, they can contribute to redness, irritation, sensitivity, itching, rough texture, and even rosacea-like symptoms.
Common signs may include:
• Persistent facial redness
• Burning or stinging skin
• Dry, rough patches
• Itching, especially at night
• Recurrent inflammation around the nose, cheeks, forehead, or eyelids
The goal isn’t to eliminate Demodex completely—they’re a normal part of the skin microbiome. The goal is balance.
