This… CHILLS: My First Berkshires Yoga Festival was everything I didn’t know I needed.
🍒Here’s the scoop with a Cherry on Top🍒
I’m not sure one word can capture what these three days meant, but my heart was absolutely exploding with joy. So let me rewind for a second. Back in 2020, I was all set to celebrate a milestone birthday in the Berkshires and finally meet one of my longtime favorites, Seane Corn ~internationally acclaimed yoga teacher, author, activist, and all-around powerhouse. But the world had other plans, and that dream had to wait.
Fast-forward six years. Life looks different, I look and feel different, and somehow the timing was finally right. Not only did I get to meet Seane, I practiced with her three times under the tents. Long holds, deep breaths, forward folds I didn’t even mind ~ CHILLS. Actual tears. And I’m so grateful my beautiful friend Corinne was right there sharing in the joy. Yes, I talked with Seane. Yes, I got the photo. Yes, I’m still floating.🙏🏻
The weekend was jam packed from start to finish. We rode a chairlift up Jiminy Peak, hiked down to a secluded glen, and listened to Garth Stevenson as birds soared overhead and the sun dipped behind the trees. There was a cacao ceremony, an edible and medicinal plant walk, and a deeply restorative practice with Hania, who also works with Marcus Smart’s YounGameChanger Foundation and teaches stress tools to active-duty military.
I moved through a strong practice with Rod Stryker, rolled out every inch of fascia with Jill Miller (yes, that Jill Miller — Oprah Jill Miller), danced it out with DJ Drez and Marti Nikko, melted into Yoga Nidra with Kevin Courtney, and so, so, so much more, and ended with a beautiful kirtan led by Andrew Tanner, the festival’s founder.
Of course I picked up a new mat, herbal tea, and some henna ~ because how could I not. And in one class, I noticed Leslie Kaminoff quietly practicing near us, just taking what he needed. That moment reminded me what yoga really is: “less about flexibility, more about that internal reach” as so many reminded me.
I skipped the lectures this time (next year!), because what I needed most was simply to get back on my mat for me. The photos don’t come close to capturing what’s in my heart, but this whole experience was the biggest, brightest cherry on top. And as I looked around, it struck me how we all came together ~ world‑class teachers with decades of experience, dedicated practitioners, and curious newbies ~ each of us taking exactly what we needed.
A big Thank You to Erin at TreeTop for not only being a presenter but keeping us all connected! Xo
