A team of college students from Central UMC in Endicott spent the first day of their Thanksgiving break building this ramp in Vestal yesterday to allow this delightful 88 year old to come home for the holidays.

It was a record 22nd ramp project for this season and number 105 for the program.

We hope your Thanksgiving makes you feel as blessed as all of these folks did yesterday.

On Wednesday November 26, a team of college students on their first day of thanksgiving break along with adults from Central United Methodist Church built our record 22nd ramp of the season. This project allowed our delightful 88 year old client to come home from the nursing home where she has been recovering from a fall.

We hope your thanksgiving brings you as much meaning and joy as this ramp build brought to those of us who were involved in it.

It is the time of year for us to begin planning for our next season of ramp building. Applications will be available soon and we are going to need your help in a couple of areas:

1. We need an AmeriCorps member to work with us this summer. This rewarding work includes 20 - 25 hours per week from April through mid November and much of the work is done on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. It offers a stipend plus an education grant. Please refer interested candidates to Rural Health Service Corps or to us here.

2. We are always in need of financial support. It costs us an average of $1.500 for each ramp we build and we hope to build 20 this season after our record of 19 in 2014. Contact us to help out financially.

3. We have a great cadre of volunteer teams, but we can always use new teams. A volunteer team includes 3-5 adult mentors and 6-12 teen volunteers. This can be a scout troop, a school service club, a church youth group, or even a family or two with several teens.

It will all be getting underway in the next few weeks so we look forward to hearing from you in any of these areas.

The Windsor School Service Club completed our first ramp of the year near East Windsor on Saturday May 17. Unable to do any prep work on Friday due to heavy rain, we began this project at 8:30 AM and finished by 6:00 PM! What a great team effort and another family with improved accessibility.

Next build is on June 6-7.

We have teams scheduled through the first weekend in August, but have plenty of openings after that ... all the way through the end of October.

We can always use additional financial support. Contact us anytime to sign up a team or to offer your support.

The weather has not been conducive to building ramps so we are shut down for the winter. But Christmas is a great time to donate in honor or in memory of a loved one, parent, grandparent, etc.

In January, we will be updating our applications. Watch for them on our web page in early February.

Ramp # 16 ... Complete!

I almost forgot ... With the help of some generous Whitney Point Rotarians and a team of HCA individuals, we completed ramp 16 last Saturday November 9. We built it for a 92 yr old WWII and Korean War Army nurse in Lisle. Because of this ramp, she can stay in her home of over 50 years this winter and beyond. A ramp for a veteran on Veterans Day weekend too. A nice act of grace it seems.

Completed ramp # 14 yesterday! The bar has been set higher for the future. Additionally, we will build ramp # 15 beginning a week from Friday with the Binghamton University Habitat for Humanity Chapter.

The ramp this past weekend was tough. We had very rocky ground and had to dig a LOT! Then, there was the rain that shut us down on Saturday and got me VERY wet again as I was cleaning up after finishing up on Monday. But it is another very well done project, thanks to our volunteers and a wonderful client's family who spent lots of hours working with us!
