A comprehensive 2026 review published in The Lancet Rheumatology analyzed clinical practice guidelines from around the world for treating low back pain. One finding stood out:
71% of guidelines recommend spinal manipulation for acute low back pain, making it one of the most consistently recommended non-drug treatment options.
The review also found that many guidelines recommend staying active, using heat when appropriate, practicing self-management, and exercising rather than relying on medication alone.
Why?
Because for many people, low back pain isn't simply about masking symptoms. It's about restoring healthy movement and improving function.
That's where chiropractic care can play an important role
At Birmingham Wellness Center, we use evidence-informed chiropractic care as part of a personalized treatment plan. Your doctor will evaluate your movement, identify possible causes of your discomfort, and create a care plan that may include chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises, soft tissue therapy, lifestyle recommendations, and other conservative approaches based on your individual needs.
No two patients are the same, which is why your care shouldn't be either.
If you've been living with back pain, don't assume medication is your only option. Conservative, evidence-based care may help you move better, feel better, and get back to doing the things you love.
