Mitchell’s Place provides an array of outcome-based, early intervention programs specifically designed to enable children with autism to reach their highest potential before transitioning to a public-school setting. The Early Learning Preschool (ELP) is an Accredited program and consists of four classrooms serving children ages two to six. Operating year round, it is an inclusive program serving b

oth children with autism and an equal number of typically developing peers. Teach Me is another early intervention program involving an intense individualized curriculum for children with autism who have extensive needs in a one-on-one setting. A third educational offering at Mitchell’s Place is the After-School Social Groups that teach children how to socially interact in a group setting. In this program, children ages six to ten learn social, recreational and life skills. Additionally, Mitchell’s Place offers Psychology, Psychiatry, Speech, Occupational, and Feeding Therapy; as well as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy services in an outpatient model. Closed captioning for any videos are available upon request.

This week’s Teachable Tuesday comes from the Flamingo Class! 🦩

The Flamingos spent time learning about Earth Day and the importance of taking care of our environment. We talked about different ways we can help keep the Earth clean, such as throwing away trash, recycling, and cleaning up litter.

The students also participated in a hands-on classroom cleanup activity. Wearing gloves and carrying trash bags, the children walked around the classroom searching for “litter” to pick up and dispose of properly. The students were excited to work together as environmental helpers and practiced teamwork while cleaning the classroom.

During the activity, we discussed which items could be recycled and why recycling is important for helping our planet. The students shared ideas about ways they can help at home and at school by picking up trash, reusing materials, and taking care of nature.

The Flamingos did a wonderful job participating in the activity and learning how even small actions can make a big difference in keeping our Earth clean and healthy!

This week’s Miracle Monday spotlight is Lennox from the Flamingo class!
We are so proud of all the hard work Lennox is putting into building kindergarten readiness skills. Lennox has been practicing the important classroom skills of listening to directions, participating in activities, working with friends, and growing independence throughout the day.
Lennox has also been participating in kindergarten readiness groups to help prepare for independence in kindergarten. During these groups, students independently participate in three different stations and transition from one station to the next. His favorite station is the writing station.
We are so proud of the progress Lennox is making as he continues preparing for kindergarten!

Families had the opportunity to learn about the valuable services and programs we offer at Mitchell's Place, including advocacy and consultation services. This week’s Worker Wednesday is Kayla Hudgins! 💙 Kayla joined Mitchell’s Place at the beginning of this year, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her on board! As our Associate Director of Advancement, her favorite part of working at MP is planning the events that help fundraise and keep our services going strong!

Outside of work, Kayla loves spending time with her kids, baking, and enjoying a Sunkist Zero🍊Fun fact: when Kayla was little, she always dreamed of being a mom!

This week in the Ladybug classroom, our friends enjoyed a fun-filled beach dramatic play experience! Our Ladybugs explored water play activities, relaxed on beach towels, floated in “the ocean,” built sandcastles, and discovered seashell treasures alongside their peers. Through imaginative beach play, we practiced important social and classroom skills such as sharing materials, taking turns, following directions, and engaging in cooperative play together. We loved watching our Ladybugs use their creativity and imagination while splashing, exploring, and having so much fun during our classroom beach adventure! 🏖️🐚🌊

Today’s Miracle Monday is Ronin from the Ladybug classroom! He is learning to participate with peers by following group directions, engaging in cooperative play, and practicing turn-taking with support. He is showing great growth in listening to group instruction and joining in shared activities such as circle time, where he enjoys helping dress the weather puppy, creating the letter of the month, and choosing movement songs. On the playground, Ronin is having so much fun connecting with friends through games like chase, peek-a-boo, and Ring Around the Rosie. We are so proud of him!
