August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month! 👁️ Just because a child seems distracted or isn’t paying attention doesn’t always mean they aren’t trying, it could be a vision problem. Early vision screening can make all the difference. 💙

A child who keeps looking away from a book, loses their place while reading or avoids homework may quickly be labelled “careless” or “not attentive”. But sometimes, the child is struggling with something they cannot explain: seeing comfortably.

Another school year is here! 🎉

This week, our amazing Vision Research Corporation screening team came together for our 2026 Screener In-Service Training to prepare for another year of serving students across Alabama and Mississippi.

Every school we visit, every child we screen, and every referral we make has the potential to change a life. Early detection of vision problems helps remove barriers to learning and gives children the opportunity to see clearly, learn confidently, and succeed at their very best.

We are excited to be heading back into schools, reconnecting with educators, and meeting thousands of students in the weeks ahead. Here's to another year of making a difference, one child at a time!

💙 Here's a look at our team preparing for the 2026-2027 screening season!

At Vision Research Corporation, our screening results are showing the same trend: myopia (nearsightedness) is increasing among children. While increased screen time often receives the most attention, reduced time spent outdoors each day may be an equally important factor.

Parents, educators, and school administrators all have an opportunity to encourage healthy habits by promoting outdoor play and balancing screen use. Small changes today may help protect children's vision for years to come.

Experts stress that avoiding long hours of close-up tasks in low light is a step towards prevention.
