Transparency alone does not lower pharmacy costs.
That is the central message our president Ritu Malhotra, PharmD, shared with a packed room of forward-thinking employers and benefits consultants at the Health & Benefits Innovation Summit in Philadelphia this week.
Her case: Transparency tells you what you're paying, but it doesn’t tell you whether your PBM is making decisions in your interest. That’s why plan sponsors should seek a partner with aligned incentives – one that shares your goals, manages to lower net cost, and preserves member access and outcomes. In the near future, federal mandates will require transparency, but aligned incentives are a choice.
Thank you to Conner Strong & Buckelew for hosting, Simon Leung for moderating, and Nathan White of RxBenefits and Patrick Fiduccia of Express Scripts for a great conversation.
