⚠️ CASH APP SCAM WARNING — PLEASE SHARE! ⚠️
I want to share what happened to me because these scammers can be VERY convincing, and I don’t want another small business owner or anyone selling online to get caught by this.
This woman first contacted me yesterday through Facebook Messenger saying she wanted to purchase about $100 worth of Happy Hiney from me.
Everything seemed completely normal. We discussed the order, and I told her that I offer free shipping on orders over $50.
Then she followed up with me this morning around 5:30 a.m. saying she was ready to pay and asking how she could send the money.
Before taking payment, I asked for her shipping address so I could make sure I could ship to her location. She sent me her address, and then she immediately started asking for my Cash App information.
I gave it to her.
She then told me the payment “didn’t go through” and that I needed to check my email. When I couldn’t find anything, she specifically told me to check my spam folder.
🚩 RED FLAG.
Sure enough, there was an email in my spam folder that looked like it was from Cash App. It claimed that a $107.50 payment was pending because my Cash App wasn’t set up as a business account.
Then it claimed that an additional $500 had to be sent to “upgrade” my account before my money could be released — and that I would then have to refund that additional money.
🚨 THIS IS A SCAM. 🚨
What made this even more convincing was how persistent and reassuring this woman was. She even offered to have her husband talk to me, saying he had dealt with this exact Cash App “issue” before and could explain it to me.
I told her there was no need because I called Cash App myself.
I contacted Cash App Customer Service at their official support number:
☎️ 1-800-969-1940
Cash App told me there was NOTHING wrong with my account and confirmed that what was happening was a scam that’s going around.
I went back and told the woman what Cash App had told me. Of course, she still tried to convince me otherwise.
Nope. Not today. 😂
Thankfully, I did NOT send anyone $500, I did NOT refund any money, and I did NOT ship the products.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
🔴 Never send money to “upgrade” your Cash App account so you can receive a payment.
🔴 Don’t assume an email means you’ve actually been paid. Open the Cash App app and verify the payment yourself.
🔴 If someone tells you to look in your spam folder for a payment confirmation, your scam radar should be screaming.
🔴 Never call a “support” number provided in a suspicious email.
🔴 Cash App’s official customer service number is 1-800-969-1940.
🔴 Don’t let someone pressure you by saying, “I’ve dealt with this before,” or offering to put another person on the phone to convince you. That’s another way of making the scam sound legitimate.
If something doesn’t feel right, STOP. Don’t send money. Don’t ship anything. Contact the payment company YOURSELF using a verified number.
These scammers are targeting people who sell online and small business owners because we’re used to dealing with new customers every day.
Please share this. It might save somebody from losing hundreds of dollars.
Stay alert. Trust your gut. Verify everything.
