Is Your Herbal Cabinet Ready for Fall? 🍂

The kids are heading back to school, routines are settling back in, the mornings are getting cooler…and we all know what tends to come next.

This is the time of year when I like to look through my own herbal cabinet and ask:

What do I already have on hand—and what am I going to wish I had when someone in the house starts feeling under the weather?

Because the best time to prepare isn’t when you’re already scrambling for something.

That’s why we’ve created our Build Your Herbal Home Cabinet area here at Lavender & Honey!

We’ve gathered some of our favorite seasonal herbal supports together to make it easier to find what makes sense for your household:

🌿 Everyday Wellness & Immune Support
Herbal teas, tinctures, Elderberry Syrup, Fire C***r and nutritional support for those everyday wellness routines.

🍯 When You’re Feeling Run Down
Herbal preparations you can have ready when your body is telling you it needs a little extra support.

🫖 Throat Comfort
Soothing herbal teas and throat sprays to keep tucked away for those scratchy-throat days.

🌬️ Respiratory Comfort
Herbal syrups, steams and our Breathe Easy V***r Rub to support respiratory comfort when you need it.

And here’s the important part:

You don’t need EVERYTHING.

Your herbal cabinet should make sense for you and your family.

Not sure where to start? Come into the shop and talk with us! Tell us what you already have at home, who you’re shopping for and what you’d like to be prepared for, and we’ll help you choose a few things that make sense for your household.

You can also choose one of our ready-to-go seasonal pairings or bundles if you’d rather keep it simple.

And if you’d really like to learn more about supporting yourself and your family this season, join me September 19th for Supporting Your Immune System Naturally.

We’ll go beyond simply talking about “what to take” and dig into herbs, nutrition and lifestyle practices that can help support the body’s natural defenses throughout the season.

🍂 Prepare now. Support your body all season long.

Let’s talk Echinacea… and WHEN to use it.

You probably recognize echinacea as an “immune herb.”

But here’s something I really want people to understand:

Not every immune-supporting herb is used the same way.

Some herbs are wonderful for nourishing and supporting the body throughout the season.

Echinacea is one I especially like having ready for those moments when my body says…

Something is coming.

That little tickle in your throat.
That slightly achy feeling.
The sudden fatigue that feels different than normal.
Or that moment when everyone around you seems to be coming down with something.

That’s when I reach for echinacea.

Echinacea has a long history of traditional use for supporting immune function and the body’s natural defenses. I especially love using it at the very beginning when the body first seems to be responding to a challenge.

And this is an important part of herbalism:

Listen to your body early.

Don’t wait until you’re three days into feeling miserable before you decide your body might need some extra support.

This is why I keep my herbal medicine cabinet stocked before cold & flu season.

Elderberry syrup in the refrigerator.

Echinacea and other herbal tinctures in the cabinet.

Herbal teas on the shelf.

The things I know I’ll want are already there when I need them.

And echinacea isn’t the only herb I use. Depending on what I’m trying to support, I may pair it with herbs like elderflower, yarrow, boneset, bee balm, astragalus or others.

That’s where herbalism becomes so much more interesting than simply saying:

“Take this herb for that problem.”

We look at the person.
We look at what’s happening in the body.
We look at the herbs and their actions.
And then we choose the support that makes sense.

Your body is constantly communicating with you.

The more you learn to listen, the earlier you can respond. 🌿

And that’s exactly the kind of thing we’re going to dig into in my upcoming Supporting Your Immune System Naturally class on September 19th.

More details on that coming next!

If there is ONE thing I like to have made and ready before cold & flu season really gets going, it’s Elderberry Syrup.

Not because elderberry is some magical shield that means you’ll never get sick.

But because it is a wonderful herb to have in your toolbox when your immune system needs a little extra support.

Elderberries are naturally rich in antioxidants and have a long history of traditional use for supporting the immune system, particularly during the colder months.

And I don’t wait until I’m sick to remember it exists.

During the fall and winter months, Elderberry Syrup becomes part of the rhythm in our home. Then when I feel like my body has been exposed to more than usual—or I notice that little feeling of hmmm… something might be coming—that’s my cue to pay closer attention and increase the support I’m giving my body.

Our Elderberry Syrup is made with:

Elderberries
Elderflower
Ginger
Cinnamon
Raw Honey

Each ingredient brings something to the formula, but I especially love that this isn’t just about “fighting a bug.”

It’s about supporting the body.

That’s the theme I want you to remember throughout this whole series:

Nourish. Support. Prepare.

Don’t wait until you’re standing in the kitchen feeling miserable, searching the cabinets for something that might help.

Build your herbal medicine cabinet before you need it.

Elderberry Syrup is a great place to start.

We make ours right here at Lavender & Honey, and we also carry DIY Elderberry Syrup Kits if you’d rather make your own at home.

Stop into the shop and we’ll help you get prepared for the season ahead. The kits are also available online at lavendernhoney.com

Your immune system needs more than elderberry syrup.

I LOVE elderberry syrup. It has been a staple in my home for years, and we make a lot of it at the shop this time of year.

But supporting your immune system isn’t just about what you reach for when you feel that first tickle in your throat.

Some of the most powerful immune support is FREE.

☀️ Get outside. Fresh air and sunshine support so many of the body’s natural processes.

💧 Stay hydrated. Your body needs adequate fluids to function well—including your lymphatic system, which plays an important role in immune function.

🥗 Eat real, nourishing food. Your body needs vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy fats to build and support a healthy immune response.

😴 Prioritize sleep. Rest is when the body gets to do so much of its repair and restoration work.

🚶‍♀️ Move your body. Walking, stretching, gardening, rebounding—movement helps support circulation and lymphatic flow.

🌿 Use herbs as another layer of support. This is where I love bringing in things like elderberry, echinacea, astragalus, nettle, garlic, ginger and nourishing herbal teas.

And don’t underestimate the simple things.

Open the windows.
Get outside.
Drink the water.
Make the soup.
Go to bed earlier.
Brew the tea.

Our bodies were wonderfully designed by God with systems constantly working to protect, repair and restore us.

My approach to herbalism has never been about replacing what the body does.

It’s about giving the body the nourishment and support it needs to do its job well.

As we head into back-to-school and cold & flu season, start with the foundations—and then let the herbs come alongside them.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing more of the herbs and products I keep on hand for immune and respiratory support.

And if you’re not sure where to start, stop into the shop. We love helping you build an herbal medicine cabinet that makes sense for your family.

Growing up, I was always sick.

I caught every bug going around, and it seemed like it would take me weeks to get over one thing—only to catch the next with very little reprieve in between.

That continued well into adulthood.

So when I had my own children, I wanted to do things differently.

I focused on feeding them well, keeping a healthy home environment, getting them outside, and supporting their bodies and immune systems along the way.

And when sickness did make its way into our home? That’s when the herbs came out.

Elderberry syrup in the fridge.
Herbal respiratory syrup when coughs and congestion showed up.
Breathe Easy V***r Rub Salve rubbed onto chests and backs.
Mullein Ear Drops kept on hand for those achy ears.
And lots and lots of warm herbal tea.

In fact, many of the comforting and immune-supporting teas we carry in the shop today came from the things I wanted available for my own family.

My kids are grown now, but I still keep those same herbal supports in my home.

And every year when the kids head back to school, I know what comes next.

More people gathering indoors. Cooler weather. Less sunshine. And all those seasonal bugs start making their rounds again.

So this is when I start paying a little more attention and giving my body some extra support—before I need it.

Supporting the immune system isn’t about trying to avoid every germ.

It’s about nourishing and supporting the body’s God-given ability to respond, adapt, and do what it was designed to do.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to share some of the herbs, foods, products, and simple practices I use to prepare for cold & flu season.

Because the best time to think about supporting your immune system isn’t when you’re already feeling miserable.

Your lymphatic system is one of those systems we don’t think much about… until we start learning just how important it is.

Unlike your circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a heart pumping fluid through it. Movement matters. And there are so many simple, FREE things you can do every day to support healthy lymphatic flow:

🌿 Walk — even a short daily walk gets your body moving.
🌿 Dry brush before your shower using gentle strokes toward the heart.
🌿 Deep breathe — the movement of the diaphragm helps encourage lymphatic flow.
🌿 Stretch & move throughout the day, especially if you sit for long periods.
🌿 Rebound on a mini trampoline or simply bounce gently on your toes.
🌿 Stay hydrated to support healthy fluid movement throughout the body.
🌿 Massage areas where lymph nodes are concentrated, such as the neck, underarms and groin.

And now we have another little tool you can add to your lymph-support routine.

Introducing our NEW Lymph Mist!

Made simply with Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera, Calendula Infused Olive Oil, Cypress, Juniper Berry & Lemongrass essential oils, this refreshing botanical mist was created to pair beautifully with lymphatic massage, dry brushing and your everyday movement routine.

Mist it over areas such as the neck, underarms, abdomen, inner thighs or behind the knees, then gently massage it into the skin.

But remember — the bottle isn’t the whole answer.

We love herbs and herbal products, but we also believe in teaching you the simple things you can do every day to support the body God designed.

That’s why we encourage you to come into the shop and talk with us! If you’re curious about the lymphatic system, aren’t sure where to start, or want help putting together a simple lymph-support routine, we’re happy to answer your questions and help guide you.

Lymph Mist is now available in the shop and online!

Stop in, grab yours, ask questions, and let us help you learn how to better support your body naturally.
