Most gyms weren't built with adults over 50 in mind.

Walk in. Find some equipment. Figure out what to do. Hope you're doing it right.

That works for some people.

But as we move through our 50s, 60s, and beyond, our goals change. We want to stay strong, keep our balance, protect our joints, continue doing the things we love, and feel confident that what we're doing is actually right for us.

That's why we created Longevity.

A place where you don't have to figure everything out on your own. Where getting stronger doesn't mean keeping up with a room full of 25-year-olds. And where your goals, whatever they may be, actually shape the way you train.

You need a plan.

You need knowledgeable coaches.

You need exercise that's challenging, but appropriate for you.

And it helps to be surrounded by people at a similar stage of life, working toward many of the same goals.

Working with adults 50+ isn't one part of what we do. It's all we do, and it's all we've ever done.

No kids' programs. No sports performance. No trying to be everything to everyone.

Our personal training sessions are coached by Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants who understand the needs of adults 50+.

Longevity was built for adults 50+.

If this sounds like the kind of gym you've been looking for, we're opening a new personal training studio on Bloomington's east side. Join our Personal Training Priority List here:

We spent August talking about bone health, and to wrap up Bone Health Month, we put everything together in one place.

Our new **Stronger Bones for Life** guide is a free, practical resource for adults 50+ who want to better understand their bone health and what they can actually do about it.

Inside, you'll learn how bone health changes with age and what you can do to protect it. We cover everything from bone density and osteoporosis to strength training, balance, fall prevention, and nutrition.

We've also included a practical 30-day action plan to help you turn the information into something you can actually use.

Whether you've been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, are concerned about your bone health, or simply want to stay strong and independent as you get older, we hope you'll find it helpful.

And please feel free to share it with someone who might benefit from it.

Meet the Longevity Bloomington Team!

One of the things we’re most proud of at Longevity is the experience our team brings to every exercise session.

Rachel, Natasha, Ben, Amy, and Robert bring together experience from physical therapy and fitness, with a Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistants, and fitness professionals all working toward the same goal: helping adults 50+ stay strong, active, and independent. Our PT and PTA team members bring more than 35 years of combined physical therapy experience to Longevity.

While Longevity Bloomington is a fitness company, not a physical therapy clinic, that background gives our team a unique perspective on exercise and strength training. It helps us know when to modify, when to progress, and just as importantly, when someone is capable of a little more than they think.

And for the past five years, we’ve focused exclusively on working with adults 50+.
Of course, credentials and experience are only part of what makes a great coach. We want Longevity to be a place where you feel known, encouraged, challenged, and genuinely enjoy showing up.

We’re very fortunate to have this team working with our members every week.

We’re expanding! 🎉

We’re excited to officially announce that Longevity Bloomington is opening a new Personal Training studio on Bloomington’s east side in the coming months!

Our downtown Personal Training studio has reached capacity, and we’ve heard from many people who would like the opportunity to train with us.

The new East Side studio will allow us to welcome more people while keeping the small, personal environment that makes Longevity different.

The new studio will offer Small Group Personal Training — the best of both worlds: an individualized program and personal attention at a more accessible price point than traditional one-on-one training. Every session will be led by a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant.

Our goal is to help adults 50+ stay strong, active, and independent in a welcoming environment without intimidating gym culture, loud music, or egos. Whether you’re already active and want to stay that way, getting back into exercise after some time away, starting exercise for the very first time, or navigating an injury or joint replacement, we’ll meet you where you are and help you get stronger from there.

Most importantly, thank you to our Longevity community. This expansion wouldn’t be possible without the people who have trusted us, supported us, and referred friends and family over the past five years. We’re incredibly grateful.

If you know someone who might be a good fit for Longevity, we’d be grateful if you shared this post with them.

If you’re interested in the new studio, or simply want to follow along as we build it, our Priority List will receive weekly updates and first access to Personal Training availability before the general public.

Yesterday, a group of Longevity members traded weights for flowers and spent the afternoon at The Seedlings Flower Farm for a flower arranging workshop.

It was a great afternoon creating some beautiful arrangements, spending time together, and enjoying each other’s company outside of the gym.

One of our goals at Longevity is to create more opportunities like this for our members to connect, try something new, and have some fun together.

A big thank you to The Seedlings Flower Farm for having us and to Amy for organizing the outing!

We’re already looking forward to the next one.

When most people think about nutrition for strong bones, they think about calcium.

Calcium matters. But it's only part of the picture.

Your bones also need adequate protein, vitamin D, and enough overall nutrition to maintain and rebuild bone tissue.

Protein, in particular, isn't just for your muscles. Much of the framework of bone is made from protein, with minerals like calcium providing strength and rigidity.

Strong bones aren't built from one nutrient. They're built from a well nourished body.

Meet Pam! 💪

Pam didn’t get serious about fitness until her 50s, when she discovered strength training and fell in love with deadlifts, squats, and bench presses.

Then, in late 2024, a herniated disc surgery followed by a total knee replacement forced her to take a break. After rehab, she wanted to get strong again but needed the right balance of challenge and support.

Pam joined Longevity Bloomington in 2025 and eventually started small-group personal training. With individualized programming and appropriate modifications, she’s been able to return to the strength training she enjoys and continue making progress.

At 73, her goal isn’t simply to lift as heavy as possible. It’s to stay strong and capable for traveling, keeping up with her grandson, spending time with friends and family, and doing the things she loves.

Her advice for anyone wondering if it’s too late to start?

“It’s not too late, and you can do it.”

Five years ago, Longevity started as something I squeezed into my lunch break while working as a physical therapist.

I would treat patients in the morning, leave the clinic to teach a class, then head back and treat patients for the rest of the day.

That first class filled, so I added another. Then another. My lunch break kept getting a little longer, and eventually calling it a lunch break was probably a stretch. 😂

What started on a random Tuesday with 7 wonderful people grew into something much bigger than I ever expected.

And almost all of that growth happened the same way: word of mouth.

Someone came to Longevity, told a friend, and that friend told someone else. Five years later, referrals from our members are still the primary way people find us. There is no question that Longevity would not be where it is today without every recommendation, referral, review, and kind word you've shared.

I'm also incredibly grateful for our team. Longevity may have started with me, but it could never have grown into what it is today without the people who joined me along the way.

Over the past five years, we've had the opportunity to work with hundreds of adults in Bloomington. We've watched people get stronger and healthier, but we've also watched friendships form and a genuine community develop. It's been a reminder that what we do is about so much more than exercise.

I'm proud that Longevity is still locally owned right here in Bloomington. This is my home and the community my family and I are a part of. In a fitness industry increasingly filled with national chains and franchises, that means something to us. Longevity was built here, for this community, and because this community supported it.

A special thank you to Elsie, Janet, Judy, Tom, Pat, Gregg, and Jana who were there with us on day one and helped get this whole thing off the ground.

Five years later, we still believe in the same thing we did when we started: helping adults 50 and older stay strong, active, independent, and able to keep doing the things they love.

Thank you for an incredible first 5 years, Bloomington.

We couldn't have done it without you.
