Bi+ folks make up the largest group within the LGBTQIA+ community — and still face some of the highest rates of erasure, from both outside it and within it.

If you’ve ever been told your identity is a phase, a layover, or “not q***r enough” — we want you to hear this clearly: your identity doesn’t need to be validated by who you’re currently dating, how many people you’ve been with, or anyone else’s checklist. Bisexuality is not confusion. It’s not a bridge to somewhere else. It is a whole, complete way of being.

At Hoosier Holistic Health, we hold space for the nervous system toll that erasure takes — the low hum of having to explain yourself, over and over, just to be believed. You don’t have to justify your identity here. You just get to exist in it.

Happy Bi Visibility Week. We see you, all of you. 🏳️‍🌈

Venture-N wasn’t just a bar. It was a gathering place. A safe place. The kind of space so many of us have relied on to simply exist without fear — and that safety was violated in the most devastating way.

To our LGBTQIA+ family here in Indiana and everywhere: your grief, your fear, and your anger are all valid right now. You don’t have to carry this alone.

As a community, we keep showing up for each other — in candlelight vigils, in open doors, in the simple act of checking on one another. That is how we answer hate. Not with more fear, but with more connection.

If you’re struggling today, please reach out to someone — a friend, a therapist, a hotline, me. Hoosier Holistic Health is here for you.

💜 Rest in power, Vincent and Cameron.

As August comes to a close, we’re sitting with gratitude — for the trans elders who fought before language existed to describe their experience, for the activists still doing this work today, and for every person in our community who shows up as exactly who they are.
Trans history isn’t a chapter that closed. It’s still being written.
Thank you for letting us walk alongside you in it. 🏳️‍⚧️💛 Happy Transgender History Month!

To every trans and nonbinary person in our community: you are not a debate topic. You are not a headline. You are a whole person, deserving of care, safety, and joy.
However you’re showing up this month — loudly, quietly, still figuring it out, fully certain — there’s room for you here. 🌈
What’s one thing that’s helped you feel safe in your body lately? We’d love to hear in the comments. Happy Transgender History Month!

We lost an icon this week. Tim Curry passed away August 26, 2026, at 80. As Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, he brought a gender-nonconforming character to the mainstream with zero apology, at a time when that took real nerve.
Worth naming: Frank-N-Furter wasn’t written as trans, and the film’s take on gender nonconformity hasn’t aged perfectly. But it cracked a door open. In 2016, trans actress and advocate Laverne Cox stepped into the role. A full-circle moment that built on what Curry started.
This is Trans History Month, and Curry’s legacy is a reminder of how visibility gets built: one brave performance, one door held open, at a time.
To the trans folks in our community… we see you, and your history deserves to be told in full. 🏳️‍⚧️

When the K*K tried to block Gay people from entering Dollywood, Dolly Parton had one answer.

“Am I going to say they’re not welcome here? Of course not.”

In 1991, when thousands of Gay men were dying of AIDS and country music barely acknowledged we existed, Dolly released one of the earliest country songs to say the word “gay.”

“Some are preachers, some are gay… But not a one is turned away when it’s family.”

Years later, when transgender musician Our Lady J needed surgery her insurance wouldn’t cover. She organized a benefit to raise the money herself.

When Dolly was asked to write a song for Transamerica, a movie about a transgender woman fighting to finally live as herself, she watched an unfinished version of the film.

She woke up the next morning and wrote “Travelin’ Thru.” It earned her an Oscar nomination.

And sometimes Dolly’s love was simply joyful…

She once secretly entered a Dolly Parton look-alike contest at a gay bar filled with drag queens.

She made her hair bigger. Her makeup heavier. Her beauty mark darker.

Nobody recognized her.

Dolly Parton lost.

In 2023, when Tennessee passed laws targeting trans people and drag performers, Dolly was asked what she thought.

She mentioned the Gay, le***an and trans people in her own family and life.

“I know and love them all, and I do not judge.”

She said she had watched how deeply it hurt them to be attacked simply for being who they were.

“They cannot help that any more than I can help being Dolly Parton.”

Rest in Power, Dolly 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Sylvia Rivera fought for a movement that didn’t always fight for her back. A Latina trans woman and Stonewall veteran, she pushed LGBTQ organizations to include trans people in their advocacy — often facing resistance from within her own community.
She co-founded STAR alongside Marsha P. Johnson, creating housing and support for homeless trans youth decades before “mutual aid” was a common phrase.
Inclusion isn’t automatic. It’s built, person by person, fight by fight. 💜 Happy Transgender History Month!

Trans history is often traced through white narratives, but Black trans women have been at the center of this movement from the start — from Marsha P. Johnson to the countless women whose names were never recorded.
Historian Andrea Horne has traced Black trans history in America back to 1836, long before the word “transgender” existed.
This month, we hold space for the fullness of that history — the parts that were documented, and the parts that were erased. ✊🏾🏳️‍⚧️ Happy Transgender History Month!
