There Is No "Right" Way to Feel After Birth

Some people feel an immediate rush of connection after birth. For others, bonding happens slowly.

Some feel confident stepping into parenthood. Others feel completely overwhelmed.

Some love the newborn stage. Others simply get through it.

There isn't one "right" postpartum experience. You deserve a safe place to be honest about yours—and that's something we hope you always feel you have here.

Postpartum mental health struggles don't always look like sadness.

Sometimes they look like:
• Constantly worrying something will happen to your baby
• Feeling unable to relax, even when your baby is sleeping
• Racing thoughts
• Feeling "on edge"
• Unusual or excessive anger
• Checking on your baby over and over
• Feeling overwhelmed by decisions that normally wouldn't bother you

If anxiety is making it difficult to rest, function, or enjoy this season, please talk to us. We're here to listen, support you, and connect you with additional resources when needed.

Your Mental Health Matters Too

Having a new baby can bring so much joy—and also exhaustion, overwhelm, worry, tears, and emotions you may not have expected.

Your postpartum visits aren't only about checking physical recovery. They're also a space to talk about how you're really doing.

At the Birth Center, we care for the whole person. You don't have to pretend everything is perfect, and you don't have to figure out the hard parts alone. 🤍

Our Fall Groups are open for registration! The Bloomington group is on Fridays from noon-1pm meeting Birth Center of Bloomington Normal. Starting on September 4-November 20.

Please email [email protected] or text 2172629975 to register!

💛 Happy International Friendship Day! 💛

They say it takes a village, and we're so thankful for the friends who make that village stronger.

Whether they bring a meal, watch the kids, send an encouraging text, or simply show up when you need them most, friends can make all the difference during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Tag a friend who's been part of your village and let them know how much they mean to you. 💕👯

Many healthy newborns can slowly scoot or crawl toward the breast during the first hour after birth when given uninterrupted skin-to-skin time.

This is called the "breast crawl," and it's one of the many amazing newborn instincts.

Nature is pretty incredible.
