This pic is from Big Bend 5 years ago in January…

My husband and I were determined to find an open trail to hike, but the kids (as usual), required a little more incentive to trudge uphill through 15 + inches of snow…in this case it was Oreos.😂

At 10 and 12 years old, they’ve finally learned to love hiking and are natural trail blazers. In fact, we can hardly keep up with them these days.

It’s January again, which means most of us are thinking about how we can feel better, live more healthily and enjoy life. Gaining more strength and endurance is a huge part achieving this…

…so what are things that motivate you to move and exercise? What are the barriers?

Have you had Physical Therapy in the past? Did you do your home program? Is there anything that your PT did to make this easier? What could he or she have done better to help?

I would love to hear your thoughts. Comment below or send me a pm!

Have you spent 2025 struggling with chronic pain or injury with no relief? Are you faced with a decision of whether or not to pursue surgery? For most people, a high insurance deductible starts over in the new year. You have 2-3 months to make up your mind whether to go under the knife...or possibly lose thousands of dollars.

It's not an easy decision, and it should never be made hastily. Invasive surgeries and procedures should be a last resort. In fact, I feel so strongly about this that one of my primary missions is to prevent or delay as many surgeries as possible (...or at the very least, optimize your recovery with the addition of prehab)....

Whether you've been suffering with...
* Neck pain/cervical radiculopathy
* Shoulder pain/impingement
* Low back pain/sciatica
* Hip pain/bursitis
* Knee pain
* Foot/ankle pain/plantar fasciitis
...I would love the opportunity to help....

That is why between now and December 1st, I'm offering a 30% discount on your initial 90 minute PT visit. One-on-one, no distractions, in the location most convenient for you.

Please give me a call (832-971-5286) or email ([email protected]) to schedule a quick phone consult.

And please share with your friends or family who have a PT need!

If you’re needing surgery due to chronic illness or orthopedic injury, odds are you have endured at least a few weeks of limited activity, pain/anxiety, loss of strength, and cardiovascular de-conditioning.

Studies have shown the shocking effects of disuse on our bodies.

Did you know that after 2 days of immobilization of a single leg, muscle protein synthesis decreases by around 30%….by 10 days, the loss of tissue is around the size of an adult heart, and loss of strength is around 30%.

In fact, if you decrease the amount that you walk by 90%, not only will you stop producing muscle, the amount of myostatin (a hormone which down-regulates muscle growth and increases the production of scar tissue) increases 3 FOLD!…and your tendency to become pre-diabetic increases.

Furthermore, repeated episodes of disuse over your life span may lead to a collective loss of lean muscle mass as you age and an increased likelihood of complications with overall health.

Multiple studies are providing evidence that PREHABILITATION up to 8 weeks prior to a scheduled procedure can:

⭐️Improve post-operative outcomes
⭐️Decrease length of hospital stays
⭐️Lower the incidence of complications

Physical therapy prior to surgery can help with this by helping you improve strength, function, and conditioning to boost your

💪Pre-operative physiological reserve

Bonus: prehab may also help you decrease anxiety by providing you with information/expectations about your procedure and the rehab process.

If you’re scheduled for surgery, don’t wait until it’s over to schedule your PT appointment. Please start now to ensure an optimal path toward full recovery.

Last week I completed a certification in Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Rehabilitation (PBFR) through Owens Recovery Science! If you are like me, you might have a similar initial reaction:
“Why would I ever want to limit blood flow? Aren’t we constantly trying to increase blood supply in order to heal?”…
Yes. We also need to…

🛑Stop atrophy
💪Build strength and restore muscle quality

This is done with high intensity training (HIT), which requires lifting heavy weight to the point of failure….

But what if you’re in pain?…PBFR is backed by evidence to safely mimic HIT by creating a hypoxic environment for the tissues, increasing lactate/acidity and metabolically driving the hypertrophy response. It has consistently been shown to…
* Improve muscle protein synthesis
* Decrease scar tissue
* Improve motor unit recruitment

It has even been shown to…
❤️‍🩹Improve cardiovascular function
⬆️Promote angiogenesis (blood flow)
⬇️Decrease pain (endogenous opioid release)
👍Accelerate bone and tendon healing

With PBFR, you can exercise with light loads (20-40% of your 1 Rep max) without adding stress and strain to painful joints.

This is NOT appropriate for you if you have:
*Unstable or severe high blood pressure
*Sickle Cell Anemia
*Deep Vein Thrombosis
*IV drug use in the same limb
*Lymphedema

Consult with your doctor if:
*You have cancer or are undergoing chemotherapy
*You have compromised vascular circulation
*You have had a lymphectomy
*You are pregnant

I will add research articles in comments. Please contact me if you have further questions and would like to learn more!
