TO ALL YOU SPURS FANS!
Our hearts may be a little heavy today after our Spurs took a tough loss last night. We love our team, we love the grind, and we always want to see that "W" on the scoreboard. Reading the Apostle Paul's words this morning in Philippians 3:8, Paul didn't mince words. He was radically blunt about what truly matters. He wrote: "Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ." So how do you think Paul would write the post-game report for a loss like this?
Maybe something like this: The Final Score is Temporary: Wins, losses, championship rings, and pristine season records are things the world values deeply—but in the grand scheme of eternity, it's "skubalon" (the literal Greek word for rubbish, trash, or refuse). The ULTIMATE PRIZE doesn't change. A loss on the court doesn't change our standing in the only game that matters. Earthly trophies gather dust, but knowing Jesus is a prize that never fades!
I think he would remind us to never let our joy depend on earthly outcomes. We can love our Spurs and still recognize that even the greatest sports franchise on earth is nothing compared to the infinite worth of knowing Christ.
Losing a game hurts for a day, but His grace sustains us forever. Dusting ourselves off, keeping the faith, and looking forward to the next chapter—both on the court and in our spiritual walks!
Go Spurs Go, and y'all have a blessed Sunday! 🏀✝️
