Could lasers do more than make aging skin look younger? 👀✨

New research is exploring whether laser treatments may actually influence some of the biological processes associated with skin aging.

One fascinating finding: after treatment with a 1940 nm laser, researchers observed changes in 83% of age-related DNA sites that were measured. The study involved 635 regions, 3 laser sessions, and found that some of the changes were still present 6 months later.

Why is this interesting? 🧬

DNA methylation is one of the ways our cells regulate which genes are turned “on” or “off.” Changes in these patterns are associated with aging, so researchers are investigating whether laser treatment may influence these processes—not simply improve the surface appearance of skin.

✨ The bigger question:
Could we eventually use treatments like lasers to help aging skin function more like younger skin?

The research is exciting, but it’s important to remember that this is an emerging area of science. One study does not mean lasers can reverse aging, and results can vary depending on the laser, treatment protocol, and individual.

Hormones work best as a team—not in isolation. 💛

Understanding the relationship between estrogen and progesterone is one of the most important concepts in menopausal hormone therapy.

Estrogen is highly effective for treating symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and prevention of bone loss. However, in women with an intact uterus, estrogen also stimulates the growth of the endometrial lining.

Progesterone plays a critical protective role by opposing estrogen’s effects on the endometrium. Without adequate progesterone, prolonged exposure to estrogen can lead to endometrial hyperplasia, a precancerous condition that significantly increases the risk of endometrial cancer.

This is why clinical guidelines recommend that most women with a uterus who use systemic estrogen also receive an appropriate form of progesterone. Women who have had a hysterectomy generally do not require progesterone unless there is another specific medical indication.
