I’ve used these three things more than ANY of piece of equipment to get ready for the mountains; including my sheep hunt, every Death Hike, and every hunting season.
Here’s what they are:
- - - - -
70lbs of sand (wrapped in tape to to prevent leaks). I use these in the final stages of building muscular endurance.
- - - - -
Bag full of pea gravel (heavier weight-for-space than sand). Mind-numbing my morning, but highly effective step ups and a variety of other single leg movements.
- - - - -
Modular sand bags split into 10-15lb intervals. I have many of these. I used them to titrate weight leading into a season and as dumbbells for single legs movements.
- - - - -
The best part? They can be used anywhere and have almost zero barrier to entry (cost, learning, space, etc.).
The worst? Now we’re completely out of excuses on why we can’t train…
