Holding space for your partner doesn't mean fixing their problems or taking responsibility for their emotions. It means being fully present with them while they work through what they're feeling without making it about you.
It means listening without jumping in to fix it. Letting them feel what they feel without telling them to calm down. Not making their emotions about you or taking them personally. Being present without checking your phone or getting distracted.
It means resisting the urge to say at least or minimize what they're going through. Asking do you want advice or do you just need me to listen and respecting the answer. Sitting with them in the discomfort instead of rushing them past it.
It means making them feel like their emotions are safe with you, even when those emotions are big, messy, or uncomfortable. This is what emotional support actually looks like in practice.
