One appointment. One copay. Timely care.
That's how dermatology works for many patients today, but a proposed Medicare payment rule for 2027 could change that.
If finalized, dermatology practices may be penalized for providing an office visit and a medically necessary procedure (like a biopsy or liquid nitrogen treatment) during the same appointment. That could mean:
• More return visits
• More out-of-pocket costs
• Longer waits for diagnosis and treatment
This proposal could eventually affect more than just Medicare patients, as private insurers often adopt Medicare payment policies.
If you'd like to make your voice heard, contact your representatives before September 14, 2026. Urge Congress to protect timely access to dermatologic care.
