Ben Pierce has a formidable neighbor less than a quarter mile from his home: the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Pierce lives on a short dead-end street in Brighton with his wife, three children and a roommate — just steps from one of the region’s busiest transportation corridors.

A self-proclaimed ‘big clean air, tree-hugging environmentalist’ originally from Vermont, Pierce’s interest was piqued by the opportunity to get air quality sensors installed at his house in March.

‘To me it was just kind of a no-brainer,’ he said.

Pierce’s home now has a softball-sized PurpleAir sensor ziptied to the front porch and another measuring the indoors. The sensors are part of ‘Breathe Easy, Allston Brighton,’ a community-led air quality monitoring project aiming to quantify environmental impacts from the Mass Pike...”

Thanks y’all for helping kick-off our Intro-to-Bluebikes group ride season with a bang! We had more attendees than ever before at last month’s ride—a great reminder that our neighborhood is full of folks who want to bike more.

We’re inviting homeowners and property owners in Allston-Brighton to come save substantially on energy costs by using Boston’s brand-new energy saving service! Boston Energy Saver offers 1:1 support to help you navigate City and State resources to find energy-saving and property-decarbonization services best fit for your unique circumstances. At this upcoming workshop, City staff will give a brief presentation, followed by direct support to all attendees to help find savings opportunities. Dinner included, and don’t forget to bring your property’s utility bills!

This Thursday, join us to learn about Boston Energy Saver, the new City service designed to help renters and homeowners save money on monthly energy bills. The service involves direct support to help residents navigate the rich landscape of available cost-saving resources and find the exact services that match them best.

Following a brief presentation, City staff will offer 1:1 support to all attendees to help save money on your monthly energy bills.

We’re working with the City to build a map of flooding hotspots across Boston’s neighborhoods—that means we need your help to document flooding whenever and wherever you see it in Allston-Brighton and beyond using the flood mapping survey link above (it takes just a few minutes to fill out)

Why does it matter? Flooding in our streets is a major source of water pollution. When water pools on roads and sidewalks, it collects pollutants and eventually drains into local water bodies—it’s one of the main reasons the Charles River can be unsafe to swim in, especially after storms.

What’s the fix? More green infrastructure! 🌿🌳🌱Green spaces like public parks, gardens, and trees absorb stormwater immediately instead of letting it carry pollutants into local water bodies. If build a strong map of flooding hotspots, Boston’s Office of Green Infrastructure ( )can better target where these solutions will make the biggest difference.
