✨ Mindfulness as a Rhythm 🥁

When I left for the monastery, I needed to drinking coffee while I was away. They don’t offer much caffeine on retreat, and I’ve learned that it’s not worth pretending I don’t drink coffee for a week or a weekend (cue headaches!). Bringing coffee was my version of a .

We had a pour-over set that someone gave us as a wedding present, and though I had never used it, I took it with me anyway. Each night, I would hand-grind my beans so that in the morning, all I needed to do was boil the water. Before meditating at 6 a.m., I’d make my cup of pour-over and enjoy it on my mindful walk to the meditation hall. Swipe to see my floor setup!

This ritual of drinking coffee—pour-over style—has become an essential part of my morning routine. There is something that feels so wholesome about making my coffee so mindfully. It sets the and tone for my whole day.
