What does value really mean in brain and mental health care?

Today in New York, ICHOM President and CEO Jennifer Bright joins healthcare leaders, policymakers and advocates for Building a Shared Definition of Value in Brain Health, part of the European Brain Council program alongside the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The discussion will explore how health systems can move beyond measures focused primarily on activity and cost, toward a more person-centered understanding of value that considers the outcomes that matter to people, including function, dignity, quality of life and long-term well-being.

Creating a shared language around value and outcomes can help align patients, clinicians, payers, policymakers and health systems around a common goal: improving the outcomes that matter most to people.

A newly published case study from Boston Children’s Hospital shares how the team adapted and implemented the ICHOM Congenital Heart Disease Set, using patient-reported outcomes to better understand the wider impact of CHD on patients’ lives, from physical and mental health to education, employment and financial wellbeing.

The work also explores practical approaches to integrating PROMs into care and using technology to make participation easier for patients.
