Happy National Yoga Month. šŸ§˜šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤Ž

I’m sharing some of the lessons from my yoga practice. The light bulb moments that have been life altering for me.

I booked a mini retreat with Dr. Alessandra | Self-Care Coach | Women Over 40 , and the entire experience was everything my mind, body and spirit needed.

During restorative yoga, she asked me, ā€œAre you comfortable?ā€

Yes.

ā€œWhat could I do to make you just 1% more comfortable?ā€

Nothing. I’m good.

Then she asked, ā€œIs any part of your body working? Because it shouldn’t be.ā€

Whew.

I stopped pretending to be comfortable and actually checked in with my body.

And there were indeed parts of me still working.

Still holding.
Still bracing.
Still trying to support myself.

She added a few more props. A block here. A blanket there.

And I felt tears forming in the corners of my eyes.

Because for the first time, my body experienced what it felt like to be completely held up and supported.

Maybe you don’t understand how powerful that was for me.

But as a Black woman, to not be holding anything, figuring anything out, fixing anything or solving anything…

My body learned something new that day.

I know what it feels like to be supported now. And I want more of it.

May you have a life altering moment that allows you to experience and embody the kind of support, love and care you are worthy of.

I’ve held space for so many people grieving the loss of someone they love, and I’ve learned that surface level support and comforting sayings don’t always land.

But I’ve witnessed something beautiful happen when I invite the grief into the room with us.

A quiet weep when they tell me what they miss most.
A huge smile when they share their favorite memory.
That mixture of hurt and joy when we listen to that one song.

Sometimes supporting someone through grief isn’t about helping them feel better.

Sometimes it’s being willing to sit beside the ache.
To say their loved one’s name.
To make room for the memories, the tears, the laughter, and the longing.

Grief has a place in our lives.

And it deserves to be witnessed, not navigated alone.

The funeral has passed. The calls and check ins have slowed down. Everyone has returned to life as usual, but you still feel heavy.

You have tried not to burden anyone with your grief. You do not want them to worry, and you are not sure they would understand how much this loss has changed you.

Still Their Child was created for you.

A community of adults who understand the unique experience of losing a parent. A space where you can bring the truth of your grief, without minimizing it, explaining it, or pretending you are okay.

Come as you are. Let yourself be witnessed. Let yourself be held.

You do not have to be over it. You do not have to grieve alone.

I am truly honored and excited about this opportunity to hold space for the women of The Centered CEO. I’ll be discussing Reclaiming Your True Self: Returning to Your Original Design.

I recently read that 56.5% of Black women meet the criteria for hypertension.

I read that and immediately thought…

what are our bodies paying for our success?

Because we carry A LOT.

The business.
The education.
The family.
The vision.
The responsibility.
Everybody who needs something from us.

And because we’re still functioning, still getting it done, still showing up…we assume we’re well.

But functioning and wellness are not the same thing.

Our wellness deserves to be part of the success story too. And we get to create lives that are rooted in our True selves, not the version of self everyone needs us to be.

We just applied for the High Five Grantā„¢ for Moms through U.S. Bank . Our hope is that receiving this grant will allow us to create more restorative spaces for women to recovery and find restoration. They asked one question, why?

Here is our why:

Because every woman deserves the opportunity to come home to herself.

Embodiment.
We want every woman we serve to experience a restored connection to herself. For some women, it is a return. For others, it is a connection they never had the safety to develop because trauma, sexual abuse, instability, or survival entered their lives before they ever had the chance to truly know themselves.

Liberation.
We want every woman to find her voice, name her truth, and develop the courage to define freedom for herself. Liberation means releasing the expectations, oppression, control, and conditioning that have told her who she has to be, and creating a life that allows her to fully belong to herself.

Holistic.
We want every woman to see herself as whole. Not as a collection of wounds that need to be fixed, but as a whole person worthy of radical acceptance, compassion, care, and love. We want her to know, deeply, that she is not lacking.

This is why restorative spaces matter.

There is something sacred about being trusted with the depths of another person’s pain. We have the privilege of sitting with women in some of the most tender places of their lives and witnessing what happens when they finally have enough safety to soften, feel, grieve, heal, and reconnect with themselves.

So grateful to still be here. šŸ’œ

May you find a care team, a community, a friend who isn’t terrified of the suicidal parts of you.

Someone who can sit beside your pain without rushing to silence it.

Someone who can hold space for the parts of you that are tired, overwhelmed, and struggling to stay.

Someone who reminds you that you don’t have to hide the hardest parts of your story to be worthy of care.

And if staying is all you can manage right now, let staying be enough.

September is Su***de Prevention Month.

May we become safer places for people to tell the truth about how much they’re hurting.

Sometimes the ā€œstrong friendā€ is really the emotionally disappointed woman.

She learned to stop asking.
To figure it out herself.
To disconnect before she could be disappointed again.

But beneath all that strength is often a woman who still wants to be seen, supported, and held with care.

If you’re ready to gently find your way back to yourself, we’re here.

I think we have all learned that grief is bigger than transitioning through ā€œthe cycle of griefā€ one time. In fact, many of us are terrified to be with the grief for fear of getting stuck there.

This grief support group is for the adult who still reaches for the phone before remembering they cannot call.

It is for the person who misses being someone’s child. Who misses their voice, their advice, their recipes, their presence, or simply the comfort of knowing they were somewhere in the world.

It is also for the person carrying a more complicated grief. The one who loved their parent but was hurt by them. Who is grieving what they had and what they never received. Who feels sadness, anger, guilt, relief, longing, or emotions that are difficult to explain.

Your loss may be recent. It may have happened years ago. You may have believed you were ā€œdoing betterā€ until a birthday, milestone, familiar song, or new season opened the grief again.

Still Their Child was created for you.

At True Self Holistic Therapy, we believe mental health care should be a space where people don’t have to shrink, hide, or leave pieces of themselves at the door to receive support.

So far this year, our small but mighty team of four dedicated clinicians has provided 835 therapy sessions and facilitated 4 therapeutic groups, supporting Black women, teens, veterans, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and community members navigating life’s many transitions.

These numbers represent more than appointments on a calendar.

They represent moments of courage.
Moments of truth.
Moments of choosing yourself again and again.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we want to honor the resilience, brilliance, and humanity of the LGBTQIA+ community. We remain committed to providing affirming, trauma informed, holistic care not just in June, but every day of the year.

We are deeply grateful to every client who has trusted us with their healing journey and to our team who continues to show up with compassion, integrity, and heart.

If you’ve been carrying more than you should have to carry alone, this is your reminder:

You deserve support.
You deserve healing.
You deserve a space where all of who you are is welcome.

We are currently accepting new clients in Maryland, DC, and Virginia and accept most major insurance plans.
